Our school has a 8th grader practicing with the (boys) varsity squad. Is that OK? They are calling this kid a student manager, but he is actually practicing.

I can't access the OHSAA website right now, but I believe they are OK, using a loophole in the bylaws by calling this kid as a student manager. I see nothing wrong if this kid is being used to help out if needed in practice, to shag balls or step in as a runner while the coach is explaining a defensive situation. If this kid is actually practicing right alongside the HS kids throughout the entire practice, that might be pushing it.
I'll continue to research, and find some solid info.

Is this 8th grader talented enough not to hinder practice? My DD assists me with a local private HS vasity team. Her skills are comparable to the best varsity player on the team and she likes to push them with the fact that she is 4 or 5 years younger than them. They really enjoy her spirit and passion for the game. Why does the OHSAA have to make it so difficult for younger players to love the game.
