Sliding into first?

I was at a tournament this weekend and seen a girl slide into first base. I have seen this same girl do this at several tournaments. She is usually called safe 99% of the time. Question.... Is this legal? I asked one of the coaches of the team if it was legal and she said that it was. Just curious to know, I do not see this too often.

Im not a expert on the rules, but im pretty sure its legal. But why do it? Youd get there faster by running thru the bag and not stopping your momentum.

It's legal to execute a legal slide at any base.

Hitter23 you finally got something right, it does slow you down to slide into first. Most slides are done to avoid a the tag from the defensive player, I've seen this a first base.

my DD slides into first but only occassionally. The handful of times she has slid into 1st she has been safe. She will only do it if she realizes it may be a close call.

The idea behind it also is to give the impression to the ump that she is safe because they are not expecting a girl to slide into 1st base. That is why she will only do it if it is going to be a close call.

May not work all the time though!!!!! It's just one of those things where she is being aggressive and will try anything to get on base and boost the team!!
