scars from sliding

My comment the first time I saw Laser Orange last year was how sharp and classie they looked.
I always prefer the pants, especially the pin striped and the sleeveless button down jerseys. The nice zipper ball shorts are also another classie touch for the hotter days.
Teams look and also carry themselves differently when sporting in a classic style, from my experience. Not to mention they are more durable and a better product for the cost. Yes they can be warmer, but the players adjust.

Don't know who's idea it was for girls to wear shorts, probably the same person that made womens high heel shoes over 4" and came to a point. Don't know anyone that has toes shaped like that.

As far as the scars, my dd's have never complained or been embarrassed. It's part of them and their pride of what they do. My 13 yr old legs and arms are a mess year round, don't think she even notices anymore or cares. Although when she first started playing competitive sports at the age of 6, I was questioned by the doctor at a yearly physical. Now he knows, and ask which sport. She loves showing off the really good ones.
The older two learned how to cover them with tanning products when needed for special occasions.

RamSftbl- My dd doctor said he was not impressed by her ''battle wounds" in August when she went for her physical. He said he "would rather not see her knee not looking like that" and gave me some antibiotic ointment ( I'm a softball parent, it's already part of my medical kit). I told him to wait until he sees her floor burns and bruises during basketball season. Not sure why he had a problem?

At least no one is wearing skirts like in the AAGPBL days...

Actually, I think they looked pretty cool---like in the movie "A League of Their Own".

But I know they are in no way practical or PC anymore (not to mention, they provide NO leg protection).

I personally like shorts better

I mean softball is about getting down and dirty, a couple little boo boo's aren't a big deal. ;)

I have seen a protective wrap on linedrive.com for the thigh and such. I have no idea if it works or not.

Yeah, they do look like they could get a little hot----but think it might be worth it to save a few layers of flesh (we'll see). ?;)

And you're right, "she" does look like she's been neglecting her grooming, lol ?;D

Actually, they are not that hot. They are lycra mostly with only the sliding pad made of neopreme but it's breathable. ?Didn't hear a peep out of any of our girls about being to hot.

Legs sliders are pretty neat too. ?Fast and friendly service from these guys and we are very satisfied. ?Why not try a pear, the price is very reasonable.

I know this might sound strange to most people but I dont like wearing the baseball pants. I dont think they would give you enough movement, and for one I love sliding and getting those scars..lol. but which girl doesnt. that is part of what makes a true softball player is getting down and dirty. but I wouldnt mind them for school ball. Quite cold when we play... :-/ dont like it.

scars from sliding.

Scars from sliding?.a plastic surgeons nurse who is a friend of my attended a clinic in Baltimore last week and per my request I asked her to look specifically for any medications that would help the girls with scarring issues at the knees. Basically the two types of scars are those that protrude above the skin and below the skin level. The above the skin levels are apparently easier to treat because you can apply pressure to the skin. There is a doctor prescribed medication called Talsyn www.talsyn.com that they recommend to help with the scaring issues. I do not know the pricing issues involved and only offer this up as information.

She did bring up that getting the wound clean was paramount because of some dyes from soils/ infield surfaces if not flushed out or cleaned out will have a tattoo effect and leave discolorations under the skin. The foaming scrubbing bubbles and peroxide must be used to clean out the wound completely and then apply a Neosporin or Polysporin.

I have used the light day pads versus gauze and after removing the wing covers I wrap the pad with the foam tape and then cover it with co ban to keep in place and sealed, clean and flexible.

I've seen shorter shorts and no socks too... so looking good is important to some and tans are more important that scars. For a school ball team I coached several years ago I bought them black pants and they were cut for girls and looked great on your typical 21st century athlete. They didn't look to good on anyone carrying 30lbs or more. I think volleyball has limited itself on athletes - I've heard many girls say they quit playing cause they didn't want to wear the shorts (girls of all shapes and sizes).

Hitter---appreciate the drills, but I'm having a little trouble visualizing some of the steps (sorry, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed ?:-[). ?

Do you know of a site or dvd that demonstrates the techniques you're talking about? ?Thanks in advance.

and D. Beckham---you're right, some of the uniforms are not very forgiving. ?

Hitter- My dd's coach(dad) in 6th grade local travel ball used the technique you described with two adults holding the bat. Every girl could slide on that team after that. The girls loved that drill!

Re: scars from sliding.

Hitter---interesting wound care recommendations. ?You are absolutely right, ?the key to preventing the tattooing is to really clean the wound out, but sometimes the girls resist the debridement (ouch!!!)

I have to ask ~ when you mention "scrubbing bubbles"---you don't mean the actual bathroom cleaner, do you? ?I assume you are talking about the bubbling action of the hydrogen peroxide?

Re: scars from sliding.

Mueller makes a product called Smile Scrub Antibacterial Foam Soap and it helps lift/ float out the dirt etc.

It looks like white shaving cream when it comes out of the can and bubbles like peroxide and it could be peroxide in a thicker form I am not sure.

It comes in a can and is sprayed on and then I flush it off with hydrogen peroxide and look for anymore dirt and get the remaining dirt out using a gauze pad and keep repeating.
