i noticed that too Dan. did you ever see the umpire make the back marks of the box with his or her foot through out the tourny?

We had a few umpires during the course of the weekend that did make lines at least where the back of the box ended. Also on two or three occasions the umpires during the pre game talk told us that they would do the best they could regarding the boxes. They were not happy that they were not down but they said that they would do the best that they could.

We did also see the crew line some of the fields during the day. I have to at least give them credit for trying.

I never saw blue make any marks or "counsel" the kids about the box. my main concern was for the 10's , in which I'm sure there were some 9's playing is that they were getting happy feet and walking towards the plate when trying to hit, or as I witnessed at least once a girl squared around to bunt , drug her back leg and right shoulder across home plate and took one in the leg . This happened twice in the same game I think. So a box is really needed . MD

They seemed to do a better job at Rumpke then they did at Rivershore.

We had 2 odd calls in regards to the same umpires at Rumpke.
One of our girls was batting left-handed- and after she hit the ball she ran to first base- umpire called her out. Said she stepped on home plate. Okay, better luck next time. Well, the batting line up came around again, and the same girl was up to bat and again, hit the ball and ran to to first base- You're out. What?? We had parents that were watching to make sure of where her feet were. No one seen her step on the plate. I think the park should have had the boxes marked and occasionally should have cleaned the plate off for a better look.

All in all, the tournament was well ran.

as far as funny calls go I'll chime in ---Ump called our runner at 2nd out for "hesitating" before going back to the bag ---the weird thing is this was our 4 hitter who had just doubled and she's no set of wheels on the base paths. She never steals, threatens to go , tease the pitcher, go 1/2 way , basically a slugger who does'nt run that great. She was walking back to 2nd with her head towards the 3rd base coach and stopped to listen , approx 2 feet from the bag. ump said runner out. Next game a diff ump gave a verbal warning to one of our girls that is aggressive , but the 1st game was in a near scoreless pitchers duel so it was a huge call , the other in a game that was'nt close. manitou, want great fields and teams go to the Toledo Tune-up next year .Denny's group re-lines and rakes after every game .They watered about every 2nd to 3rd game Nice facitlities and very strong group of teams from Ohio, Michigan, Penns. and Indiana. At 10u the best 2- 10-u teams we have seen this year in Indiana Thunder and Indy Dreams .

I agree that the Toledo Tune-up is an excellent tournament. We have played there in previous years and one of the draws was that there is typically a great mix of teams from Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. Occasionally even a team from Canada.

This year we played SlugerFest because we did not want to be in Toledo two weekends in a row. Next year we will see how the dates fall

Denny always does a great job up there.
