CHICKASHA, Okla. – The second ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (17-0, 6-0 SAC) picked up a pair of wins against Langston University (6-7, 3-3 SAC) on Friday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark. The Drovers shutout the Lions in the first game 5-0, and then took game two by a final score of 18-1. Prior to the second game of the double-header, No. 2 USAO had not allowed a run in 26 innings! Following the sweep over the Lions, the Drovers have now outscored their opponents 172 to 33 through the first 17 games of the season.

GAME 1 –

The first game of the day started pretty slow, as both offenses struggled to push a run across. The Drovers broke the scoreless tie with one run in the bottom of the third inning. USAO scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth inning to put the game away.

Emily Cerny (SO/Newcastle, OK) was dominant in the circle once again. Cerny pitched 7 shutout innings for the defending national champions, striking out 14 batters along the way to the win. The reigning NAIA Player and Pitcher of the Year has pitched 12 shutout innings this week, and only allowed 3 hits while striking out 29 batters!

Alyson Clemence (SO/Washington, OK) led the Drovers at the plate as she turned in a 2-3 performance that included a pair of runs and a RBI triple. Karlie Velasco (SR/Del City, OK) and Karmyn Pearn (SO/Newcastle, OK) each finished the game with one hit and one run scored. Kristen Prieto (JR/Moore, OK) stayed red-hot at the dish as she was a perfect 1-1 with a RBI and a walk. Emily Cerny contributed to her own cause as she went 1-2 with a RBI. Destinie Lookout (SR/Oklahoma City, OK) and Randa Hatter (JR/Stratford, Okla.) each added singles in the win.

GAME 2 –

The Lions snapped the Drovers shutout streak in the very first inning as they scored one run in the opening frame. However, the lead was short lived as the home team would go on to score three runs in the bottom half of the first. The Drovers offense exploded for 11 second inning runs, and 4 more in the third inning.

Kristen Prieto once again hit the cover off the ball in game two of the double-header. Prieto finished the day with a 3-4 performance that included a double, homerun, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBI's. Prieto finished the week having gone 9-10 with 5 runs scored, a double, three homers, and 16 RBI's in four USAO victories!

Karlie Velasco contributed a 3-3 performance that included a pair of runs and 3 RBI's. Randa Hatter concluded the blow-out victory having gone 3-4 with 2 runs and a run batted in. Brooke Rains (JR/Washington, OK) had a great game, going 2-3 with a run scored, a pair of doubles, and 3 RBI's. Darci Chester (SO/Collinsville, OK) added a pair of singles, a run, and drove in 2 runs. Alyson Clemence and Rhylee Vandiver (SO/Newcastle, OK) each picked up 2 hits and 2 runs scored in the victory. Destine Lookout concluded 1-3 with 3 runs and a 3-run bomb. Dakota Clouse (SR/Blancahard, OK) finished with a hit, 2 runs scored, a RBI, and a stolen base.

Lyndie Ervin (FR/Washington, OK) continued to pitch very well, as she picked up her fifth win of the season, and lowered her earned run average to 3.03. Ervin pitched all 5 innings and struck out 3 batters in the shutout victory.

The Drovers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 12 when they travel to Oklahoma City to face Mid-America Christian University at 2 and 4 PM.
