[Softball] No. 2 Drovers Sweep Friends University

CHICKASHA, Okla. –The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (4-0, 0-0 SAC) hosted Friends University (0-2, 0-0 KCAC) and the No. 2 Drovers swept the double-header, winning the first game 6-1 and 4-3 in game two.

GAME 1

The Drovers and Falcons took a scoreless tie into the bottom of the third inning when the Drovers would strike first. USAO got their first run when Dakota Clouse (SR/Blancahard, OK) singled to right, and then scored on a RBI single from Kristen Prieto (JR/Moore, OK).

One inning later, USAO rallied to score 5 runs. Randa Hatter (JR/Stratford, Okla.) opened the inning with a single up the middle, followed by a walk, issued to Tarah Madron (JR/Konawa, OK). Alyson Clemence (SO/Washington, OK) then hit a three-run inside-the-park homerun as she drove the pitch to deep right field. Destinie Lookout (SR/Oklahoma City, OK) drove in the Drovers fifth and sixth runs of the game as she singled to right-center. Summer Leitka (JR/Norman, OK) would continue to dominate the Falcons batters to close the game.

Leitka was superb in the circle, going all 7 innings, while only allowing 1 run and 3 hits during her 15-strikeout performance.

All nine Drovers that had an at bat, contributed at least one hit in the win. Destinie Lookout led the USAO offense, going 2-4 with 2 RBI's. Randa Hatter and Karmyn Pearn (SO/Newcastle, OK) each went 2-3. Alyson Clemence went 1-3 with 3 RBI's and an inside-the-parker. Dakota Clouse, Tarah Madron, Keely Kingsly (SR/Oklahoma City, OK), Karlie Velasco (SR/Del City, OK), and Kristen Prieto each finished the game with one hit.

GAME 2

Friends was able to take the early lead in the top of the first inning, but the Drovers bounced right back to tie the score at one in the bottom half of the inning. The score remained locked at one until USAO scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Falcons gave the game some drama late, as they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. With 2 outs and runners in scoring position, Falon Howell (SO/Duncan, OK) was able to induce a game-ending groundball out.

Howell pitched all seven innings for the Drovers, allowing just 3 earned runs, as she struck out 5 batters. Karlie Velasco led the offense as she went 2-3 with a run, and 2 RBI's. Alyson Clemence reached base twice, with a pair of singles. Darci Chester (SO/Collinsville, OK) and Kristen Prieto each went 1-3 at the dish.

The Drovers will be back in action on Friday, February 15 when they play at Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla. The double-header is set to begin at 1 PM.
