[Softball] No. 1 Drovers Sweep No. 2 Stars in Walk-Off Fashion... TWICE

CHICKASHA, Okla. – The number one ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (21-0, 8-0 SAC) and No. 2 Oklahoma City University (22-4, 4-2 SAC) lived up to the hype on Saturday at Bill Smith Ballpark. The Drovers were able to take game one with a 4-2 come from behind, walk-off win. The Drovers once again won in walk-off fashion in game two with a 7-6 win against the second ranked team in the NAIA.

GAME 1 –

The No. 2 Stars took the first lead of the ball game as they scored their only two runs in the top of the second inning. The No. 1 Drovers began to rally in the bottom of the sixth as they tied the game at two. Emily Cerny (SO/Newcastle, OK) was able to shut down the Stars in the top of the seventh, giving the Drovers the opportunity to pick up the walk-off win. Destinie Lookout (SR/Oklahoma City, OK) came to the plate with one runner on base and she blasted a two-run walk-off homer to center field to take down their rivals from Oklahoma City.

Emily Cerny was stellar in the circle, going all 7 innings, allowing just 2 earned runs on 3 hits as she struck out 6 batters.

The HERO, Destinie Lookout finished the game 2-4 with the walk-off two-run shot. Emily Cerny helped her own cause as she went 1-3 at the plate with a RBI. Dakota Clouse (SR/Blancahard, OK) finished the win with a 1-2 performance that included one run batted in. Keely Kingsly (SR/Oklahoma City, OK) and Kristen Prieto (JR/Moore, OK) each contributed singles in the comeback win.

GAME 2 –

The No. 2 Stars were seeking revenge in game two, and they started their scoring early. Oklahoma City brought one run across in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. OCU was able to add one more run in the fourth inning, extending the lead to 3-0. However, the Drovers bounced back with a 3-run inning to tie up the score. OCU reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth as they pushed their fourth run of the game across the plate. The Stars added to their lead once again in the top of the sixth as they scored twice. USAO came to the plate trailing in the bottom of the seventh, and once again they found a way to score two runs and pick up the win. Tarah Madron (JR/Konawa, OK) scored the game winning run on a wild pitch!

Emily Cerny picked up her second win of the day, as she pitched the final 2 innings of the game, allowing one run and striking out one batter. Lyndie Ervin (FR/Washington, OK) pitched the first three innings of the game before being relieved by Falon Howell (SO/Duncan, OK) for the next two.

Randa Hatter (JR/Stratford, Okla.) was superb at the plate, going 3-4. Alyson Clemence (SO/Washington, OK) finished the walk-off win with a 2-4 performance that included a run scored, two doubles, and a run batted in. Tarah Madron not only scored the winning run, but she also went 1-2 with a pair of runs, and a RBI. Kristen Prieto contributed a 2-4 performance, while Darci Chester (SO/Collinsville, OK) went 1-3 with a RBI. Dakota Clouse and Destinie Lookout each finished the wild win with one hit a piece.

The No. 1 Drovers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 19 when they play a double-header at Southwestern Christian University starting at 1 PM in Bethany, Okla
