She use's her hips, then lets the upper body fly ahead.
I dont view this as a connected swing

More of a slap single, in the gap. WHich is good

I just try to teach a power swing and leave the slap hitting to someone else.

Big girls can swing like this. I view this as an arm swing not connected. Weight did not get off the back side

Little girls cant hit like this or it never leaves the infield ( most of the time)

a few comments --Thanks for photographic proof that Enea lost her groove. Is there any way to slow down and repost the vid in post 42 ? It does look like an "all arm swing" but I'd like to see it nice and slow to see where she loses it. In the last one , post 43 the big girl, her weight does shift some , her midline moves forward towards the pitch and she does come up on back toe. But hips don't really lead her hands, very little torque MD

having said that about the girl in post 43 IF the pitch was really on the outside part of the plate or possibly off the plate you should stay "closed up" and not fly open.... at contact the belly botton should be pointed in the direction of the hit ?? correct ? It appears she hits that ball to RT field. maybe thats as open as she should be ?

ps That leg cock/knee cock on the girl in post 42 looks like something out of a bad elvis movie --- that right leg shakes like jello . I've seen that done by good hitters but really don't see the need to have that exaggerated a load. MD

She stays connected but has a casting out swing some. Not a tight hand pivot point.

I dont know about this swing. She over wraps the bat IMO

Maybe others can chime in on this swing

In other terms , she doesn't keep her hands tight enough or close enough to the body ? or she hits around the ball somewhat ?

She casted out because the pitch was about 1ft outside. look were the catcher is setup she is inside the right hand batters box and reaches straight forward with her glove..

Kind of a semi-slap. Maybe just going with the pitch? I wonder what the result of the at-bat was?

She is wearing purple, so that is a plus! :)

I don't think casting is the main issue with this swing. She is letting her shoulders steer her hands as opposed to her hands and elbows steer her shoulders. Her body is rotating, and the bat is just along for the ride. You can see this by the way her right shoulder bails out to soon, and her right elbow is flat across her body at contact. Her hands "cast" away from her body because she had no chance of hitting this outside pitch with her front shoulder in this position other wise.

Her grip is wrong, you can see the bat recoil in her hand as it contacts the ball. She also never finished the swing (got to extention). I think this is due in part to the fact that she was in a weak position at contact, and a grip that exhausted all the forward momentum of the bat at ball strike.

Bustos made a statement about looking at swings. What was the location of the pitch? What was the situation with runners ? How many outs? What was the count? Did she bait the pitcher? As she stated , unless you know those things you cannot really look at a video and tell what the hitter is doing? There is a video of her in the 2004 games floating around and everyone has comments about that swing. She will be the first to admit the swing in the video is not what she teaches, because it was a high and inside pitch and she baited the pitcher. So looking at flaws sometimes , might not be what the hitter does 90% of the time.

Dan thats the Diff between a hitter teaching the game and just an instructor. Getting a Female hitters perspective in game situations is a priceless tool for younger hitters.
