If you save this .gif onto your hard drive and open it with QuickTime Player you can go through this swing frame-by-frame. With the frame-by-frame you can really see the problems with this swing.

I disagree that she stays connected throughout the swing. Once she gets to the bat lag position, her hip rotation comes to a complete stop. Look at the back foot. Even for an outside pitch she should be rotating as needed.

Once her rotation stops look at the hands and how the bat travels through the hitting zone. It becomes a push swing. She casts her hands at the ball and is hitting the ball almost on the handle instead of the sweet spot of the bat. At contact the bat almost slows to a stop; there is no extension or follow-thru as a result.

Bustos made a statement about looking at swings. What was the location of the pitch? What was the situation with runners ? How many outs? What was the count? Did she bait the pitcher? As she stated , unless you know those things you cannot really look at a video and tell what the hitter is doing? There is a video of her in the 2004 games floating around and everyone has comments about that swing. She will be the first to admit the swing in the video is not what she teaches, because it was a high and inside pitch and she baited the pitcher. So looking at flaws sometimes , might not be what the hitter does 90% of the time.

I agree. It's just fun to look at swings and see how they could make them better. Something to pass the time until the snow all melts. It's better than trying to keep a two word story going for 6 months... No offense Kat, I love your posts!

I think this is a great point concerning the girl in purple's swing. I have seen a lot of major league games were one of the players goes with a pitch like this and they talk about what a great piece of HITTING. I love seeing all these swings and reading your analyse of the swings but sometimes you just have to hit the pitch were it is thrown and some of the technical aspects of the swing may change in relation to the pitch or situation ie: one out, down by a run with runner on third. JMHO

As pointed out earlier - pitch is around 6-8 inches off the plate (cathers glove and shadow confirm this) AND the batter step to toe touch away from the plate towards 1st base - she has no choice but to redirect her hand path / cast her hands to reach the ball and punch it into LF.

Would'nt you need to know the position of the sun or time of day to discern the shadow the catcher's glove put out ? How's that for being argumentative ? LOL JK you Doug i thought it was pretty funny you could tell it was 6-8 inches outside confirmed by a shadow. MD

Comes from years for experience standing down 3rd baseline and watching girls take a called strike three on a ball 6 inches off the plate... lol.

I do agree that several factors determine what type of swing you take, pitch location, was the hitter fooled, was the hitter guessing a pitch, was she just trying to put a ball in play . thankfully one bad swing does not make a bad hitter . MD

That's easy. You can tell from the consistency and color of the field material that is is specific to a certain geographic location. Then, you look at the clothing worn by the players in the video to determine season. Finally, through advanced quantum physics and math, you can calculate the time of day and angle of the sun. The more advanced will be able to also determine wind speed and direction by watching the players hair in the dugout behind the batter. C'mon, this ain't rocket science. :lmao:

My youngest daughter in rec ball used to swing at every pitch location with a swing like this

She casted out because the pitch was about 1ft outside. look were the catcher is setup she is inside the right hand batters box and reaches straight forward with her glove..

Yeah - not a good swing example - looks like to me she was just trying to put it in play. Probably had 2 strikes and was protecting. Doesn't even finish...

I think the swing should fit the body type. If a girl is strong enough to use only her upper body and is able to hit the ball solidly why would you want to change it? There is a golf instructor that teaches based on physical build as well as flexibility issues. I think there is some merit to looking at things this way. We can't all swing like Crystal! Wish we could though!! I just wonder if this kind of thinking will ever be looked at or we will continue to try and make all the girls clones?

post # 76. Look at her stride? The stride should be at toe touch she should be able to lay her bat down and it should be toe to toe. She is not balanced that wide. post #75. She gets her weight over the back side. Watch her rear shoulder move back to the catcher.

You have some interesting points.

Why do girls throw like girls and hit like girls?

Lets take it a step further as to the girls being more upper body dominant.
Would using only the upper body effect their shoulder or elbow when throwing by negating the use of the lower body?

Why do the girls have a 23% higher rate of incidence as to ACL injuries for the same injury to a boy?

Do the glutes fire the knees the same in males as females?

Is their spine alignment the same in males as females?

Does carrying angle effect the male as much as the female?

Does laxity effect males as much as females?

Thanks Howard
