Trust me on this, either a rise that doesn`t work or a drop that doesnt work can result in a hard hit ball. You dont get to pick which poorly thrown ball will result in a double.And I will take a ground out over a DOUBLE from a 14u pitcher who THINKS they throw a rise ball.
you have strike out pitchers and you have pitch to contact pitchers.
I have coached both niether had a rise but a well place fast ball up works just fine.
DD was a strike out pitcher. Her philosophy was, the less times the defense had to make a play, the better. Riseballs, drop balls (except with a runner on 3rd) curves and changes are all effective strike out pitches. All poorly thrown are potential homers.
You better have a great defense behind a pitch to contact pitcher.
I like K`s because no contact (K) is better than a potential error. But that is just me.
