The Worst Thing About Select/Travel Ball

For me a bad thing is telling a player she didn't make the cut. The worst thing is telling that same thing to a player who you used to coach in rec, then All-Stars back when my daughter was younger. Some of those players you get to know and are so eager to get back on a team that you are coaching but they just aren't ready to play on this team.

It would be easier to just email them as the tryout paper says, but I can't. I have to call them and speak to them and their parents. Sometimes I wonder who will hurt worse, them or I?

For me the worst thing is seeing the folks (coaches, parents, umpires, etc...) that think the game is about them, and not about the kids. Nothing worse for me than seeing a coach or a parent (even worse) reading a kid the riot act because they under performed, made an error or for heaven sake struck out. Do they really think the kid doesn't feel bad enough as is, really?!

Watching the game pass the girls by who have the most passion for it. Then wtaching some of the gifted ones not work as hard as they need to.

Parents who just CANNOT shut up behind the backstop! I guess that goes for travel and rec. Also I've seen and heard some pitchers parents who swear every pitch there little jenny finch throws is a strike!? My goodness I can't wait for the season to start again!
