This is certainly something to ask coaches before accepting a spot with a team ... how often will they practice in the off-season including the spring ... a new coach might not know any better, an experienced coach might also coach high school ball and have too many conflicts this time of year, etc. Our 11-U team has essentially practiced the whole off-season, and is going just once a week now as the head coach has high school coaching commitments, and an assistant is playing college ball. But you can be sure we will hit the practice field hard as soon as that is all done. As some others have said, it is important that the families are working on their own during this time, ideally with pitching and hitting coaches, and with instructions from the travel coach on what to be working on. In the end, it is the individual families' responsibility to get their girls ready.
My advice here would be to continue to work on your own and stick it out for this season and see how it goes. If you're not happy with the experience, then look for greener pastures next year, and make sure you ask these kinds of questions up front.
