Our umps were all very good! But saw 1 game late Friday night where there was bad call after bad call. Plate ump took focus off girls and onto himself with his calls and conduct. But besides these 2 all others seemed fine IMO

Only was there for 1 game (Doom-Ohio Ice) on friday, but the two men working that game did a solid job. Talked with the home plate ump for a couple of minutes before the game and you could tell he was sharp and easy to approach if you have any questions.

Watching them during the game they did an excellent job.

What a tournament. I seen some of the best teams around. This was like a World Series. The play was extremly tough. I heard issues with some umpire's but over all i believe they did a good job. Jim did a great job getting this field together and i believe the teams that entered are better just due to the competition. I went to the ball field this morning and seen the teams warming up, every team there looked good and ready to play, what a field. Good luck to whomever wins, you will have worked hard to do so. Again fantastic field.

Overall, I thought the umpires were decent. I agree that this was the best level of competition I have seen in 1 tournament in Ohio. We had never been to ASA States before this year and I was very impressed with the teams and facilities at Findlay. Now if only our team could have stayed in it longer...

I chirped about one call, which is very unlike me. And I was wrong to do that.

Here is a general issue, however, that really concerns me. We had several home plate umps where it seemed impossible TO BOTH TEAMS to establish the strike zone. Yes, yes, I know that the strike zone is the UMP'S STRIKE ZONE and we teach our players to recognize that. But when the Ump's strike zone is so inconsistent? If Howard were in the same room with me he would probably slap me up the side of the head and tell me that if your hitter is good enough, she can establish her own, wider strike zone and take the ump out of it completely. (Have I got that right, Lemmings?). But many many hitters just aren't that good (especially at the really young age), and I think it does a disservice to the game when the ump is really inconsistent as to the zone.

Geez, do you think I have posted enough controversial "stuff" for one day? :)

Stattie, are you talking to me? Because I was talking only about the inability that all of us had at 14U to figure out strike zones. There were some home plate umps that were fine, really fine. But there were some where we were literally conceding to each other (as in opposing coaches) "well, that was a strike earlier in the game".

I got nothing re Cincy Doom and umpires at the 14U tourney. Except that I chirped too much.

CGS we only had one this weekend that had a bad strike zone... for both teams. It was frustrating from a pitching standpoint as well as a batting standpoint. The junk pitchers really had to throw mostly straight heat to get a strike. It was even on both sides so there was no disadvantage for one team. Considering the amount of games played this one ump was an exception in our experience.

But letthemplay, you will agree that you had far fewer umps to evaluate than those of us who actually lost a game in the tournament, right :D?

Congrats on a wonderful tournament for Intensity.

Just one , but later on the field umpire I heard telling the home plate umpire he was wrong. Called a girl for stepping on the plate, during a slap. Later changed it to stepping in front of the plate.

DID YOU KNOW...
By litle league rules, softball included, you can step on the plate while contacting the ball, provided your foot is still touching any part of the batters box.

Got called out at Zanesville for stepping on the plate during a slap. I'm sure you know who. Later Home plate umpire told me, ( didn't know it was my dd). he called it to end the game since we were way ahead and a storm was coming. Heard by a few and we all couldn't believe he told us that. With a cross over step, style slap we have never had this called till this year. I watched it on the camera and it was not close.
