I thought the rules sent out said 1hr 30 minutes on pool games. We never got to a time limit anyway. Too bad the last 3 games were not on time limit, we may have got home Sunday instead on Monday. Rough Monday at work.

our umps our last game refused to call an illegal pitch when clearly the pitcher was "jumping" forward leaving the ground. quit treating 16u pitchers like 10u pitchers and treat them like the college prospects they are. play by and enforce "ALL" the rules!

Better off just calling the illegal pithces starting at 10U and eventually this issue should be eliminated.

DID YOU KNOW...
By litle league rules, softball included, you can step on the plate while contacting the ball, provided your foot is still touching any part of the batters box.

I have a question somewhat about this rule and the previous posting, which normally I am pretty good about rulings.

Rule 7 Section 6 says the Batter is Out: When the entire foot is touching the ground completely outside the lines of the batter's box when the ball makes contact with the bat.

The umpire called the batter out on a foul ball. I don't see anywhere in the rule where it says fair or foul ball. I always thought the rule only applied to fair balls.

The rule about a batter hitting the ball with a foot entirely on the ground outside the batter's box applies to ANY bat/ball contact. Whether the ball travels fair or foul, the batter is still out.

Hitting the ball while a foot is touching home plate is a different matter. There is a different interpretation in the "Official Baseball Rules" (OBR), the rules upon which professional baseball are based. There, if a portion of the foot is touching the plate, but the rest of the foot is still in the batter's box, there is no rule violation. Little League Baseball follows the OBR rule. Many of their Little League Softball rules are derived from their baseball rules, so they have a different interpretation from what you see in the rest of the softball world.

For most all others- ASA, NFHS, NSA, USSSA, etc.- hitting the ball with any portion of the foot touching the plate, even if the rest of the foot is still in the box, is illegal and the batter is out.

No, had a slapper called out last weekend for fouling off a pitch while completely out of the box, fair or foul, it's an out.
