Umpiring at Troy Lady Liberty

The problem is that there are a few of the umpires who do "Think the Game is About THEM"..................A good referee, umpire is NOT noticed during the game, that's because they did an excellant game. After those games, most coaches shake their hands after the games and tell them good game!

We had a crew at the NSA States in Cincy that stopped the game after a close call, it was the correct call she made, but a parent stated that was close.........She turned around and said "They have applications at the office to become umpires if you think you can do a better job!"...............I told her to manage the game not the crowd, no one paid $5 to see the umpire confront the crowd....She got quiet and never looked back again.

Is this the umpire everyone calls chachi or stinky? Just being curious. I actually started liking this fool.

thats what happens when you go to NSA tournaments. Their umpires don't have to take a class or pass a test. We went to the earlier troy tournament and didn't care for a few of the umpires.
1 guy was talking to my husband about umping our tournament(ASA), my husband was trying to be nice and took his information, I said no way in h***.

This umpire has had a reputation for a couple of years I believe, but his behavior has certainly escalated. We ran into him at both the first Greenville and Troy tournaments and at the plate he routinely made no bones about ejecting coaches for questioning judgement calls of any sort. What's hard, is that whether your a coach/parent, you often call out what you see as almost a reflexive response to the action of the game. A lot of times you might not even be questioning a call, just responding to what you have seen. This happened to our 3rd base coach who verbally responded to an obstruction he beleive occured while our runner was heading to third. The umpire in question, jumped all over him and threatened to throw him out. It's unfortunate that he has chosen to take this approach to the game because as others have said, I can't say I've really had any issues with his calls in general, (everyone has close calls) but nothing out of the ordinary. It all comes down to his demenor with the coaches and fans and believing that he is "ALL POWERFUL".

On a side note.....did he really get away with making the Bandits forfiet that game? Why didn't the TD or the UIC step in? If this truly was unreasonable, then continuing to let him throw coaches/teams out for basically nothing, is unreasonable and simply allows the problem to be perpetuated!

The Ohio Wave 11U team played all of their games at diamond #2 and we were fortunate to have excellent umpiring on both days.

The Ringer the guy in question is not the guy that they call Stinky. He has issues himself but it is the guy that umpired this past weekend with Stinky.

Just trying to clear the air. :)

Wow,

I would not have made it past the pregame with the umpire giving a speech like that. I would have told one of my parents to call the UIC so he/she can join in on that conversation.

Did the forfeit stand? If it did, this will be a black eye for the tournament.

I think it is the guy that has his friends and family come out and watch him ump. This is an issue for sure. I did not see the tossing at troy but I know which guy everyone is talking about. Might as well let the catchers call the game

johnnies I would have taken your approach had this been the first time that I had ever run into that guy. I can tell you that the coach from the other team that was seeing this umpire for the first time had to pick his jaw up off of the ground. He could not believe what he was hearing. It actually seemed like he was joking because it was that whacky, but he was 100% straight up.

The forfiet did indeed stand and I have to tell you the coaches for the Bandits team did nothing to earn that treatment. I was right there, saw the whole thing and it was not right. I am sure that the TD of that tournament will hear what is being said and will not allow that umpire to do games there again.

The umpire in question at the Troy Tourny after all the fuss with the coaches, parents etc..... made it a point ?to smoke under a no smoking sign lol ? even after throughout the tournament it was addressed numerous times via loud speaker that it was a non smoking tounament.... Obviously the umpire in question cant hear as well!!!! I know that a Bandit parent has a picture of this. good thing that pictures arent added in hear.

johnnies do you think that if you were addressed by this umpire with a pregame warning and you would notify the td they would do anything? just curious because one coach had mentioned that point to me as well. If the situation happened to him.

He threw a parent and 2 coaches out and then the coaches pulled the girls off of the field and forfieted.
