Geewhiz, How did I miss this thread??? I just had to spend the last 40 minutes reading everything and I have a few things I need to chime in about.

1. I always though Klump was a man.
2. Didn't Hasbro make the Easy Bake oven?
3. What is Daddy Ball?

I see this as a good thing as the game has exploded in popularity. This has created more opportunities for the kids to play more games more competitively. Will most of these players go on to play in college? Of course not, but depending on where you live, the rec ball can be so dumbed down it's unbearable.

I was talking to parents in Dublin who told me their rec league doesn't even keep score at 12U!?!?! We entered our 7 year old in a 10U fall rec league thinking it would be good for her to play up and get better competition. What a joke. She actually pitched and was the ace. She's only 7 (and small for her age) and the 11 YO catcher couldn't even catch the ball (we're talking 33-34 mph here) much less throw it back to her. It was VERY BAD rec ball. I'm sorry I can't make this up.

But look around. There are a lot of clinics, books, DVDs, that people are taking advantage of to get better and improve the level of play.

There are also different levels of travel tournaments. If a team is on the weaker side but wants to get away from rec they can still play the less competitive neighborhood tournaments. If they think they can hang with the elites there are more competitive tournaments. The performance on the field has to speak for itself.

That being said, yes a lot of people are still looking for players. At the same time, how many quality players are not even thinking about softball right now? Probably more than most people think because your better athletes go into volleyball, then basketball, and then in March start thinking about softball.

Again, I don't think this is a bad thing.

I am sure it has been said a bunch but lol...there are to many teams. Its fairly obvious there are to many teams or the thread title would be "where are all the teams".

Not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing...I guess having kids involved in anything healthy is a positive.

To those ppl that start these teams need to really think about what they are doing first. They start these teams cause their dd cant make it else where Not saying it is true for all but my dd got on some teams that was build just for coaches dd. Not fair for girls that can play and hold their own,and dont need daddy or mommy to make them a team. Travel teams are to expensive to do that. Go to rec ball and start your team there. Sorry dont want to be rude but the truth is the truth

JMHO....several have hit on the head......too many teams. Talent is watered down now but in a few years if the kids keep playing it will get better.

Trust the market. It works. If there are too many teams this market will shake them out. If there is demand the teams will be filled.

It's no different than business. I can complain about having too many low ball competitors, but unfortunately they have to fall on their face and go bankrupt to actually go away. All I can do is provide the best possible products and services and not worry about everyone else. Travel ball is no different.

Travel is analogous to our capitalist system. Rec is your government program.

Hey Todd, Way to Go on the thread. Ms. Klump, it is nice to know you are a lady. May I say there are few women more alluring than softball moms.

I'm sure if you asked my wife, she'd have quite a different opinion. But she's worth chasing around the diamond as well.

I have read many comments about this topic both good and bad.

If we are here for the girls opprortunity to play then why are some users of this forum putting down new club organizations, players abilites ect.

1st. Its great to see this many girls playing the sport and have the opportunity to play it. As far as being watered down -it will all shake out in the end.

2nd. New organizations come around for mutiple reasons all listed in previous posts.

I know from my experience my daughter makes the final decision on where she wanted to play this year. Its for the girls not the parents / coaches.

PS:
My thoughts for lack of girls:
HS no longer encourages muli sports. They expected your DD to be working on their sport and only their sport thru the year. Therefore kids have to choose which sport they would rather play. ;&
