Good post JWB. As the Coach says, "Right down the middle!"
Obsessiveness needs to be addressed. Yes, WHEN I WAS YOUNGER a player had to be great to even be considered. That was 20 years ago man!!!! Now times are different and so is the sport. I don't know your DD and I didn't say she shouldn't be allowed to play. I said BACK WHEN I PLAYED you had to be great to play because there were very limited teams....20 years ago.
Re: ASA Eligibility and Age, Fact and Fallicy
Hi ringer, ""Maybe I misread your tone, it is awful hard to judge someone's tone with only written text"" That is a real understatement. Down here in SEO getting game time for my DD is a nightmare....posted 10-29-09
then on 12-01-09 we get this...
Are you an ARROGANT AS***** or what? Some kids LIKE TO PLAY SOFTBALL. Rec leagues simply do not provide much opportunity to do so. Go ride your high horse to Moscow circa Oct. 1812.
So what happened in three days ?
Teach Your Children Well Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good-bye
Teach your children well
Their father's hell
Will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks
The one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.
And you, of tender years
Can't know the fears
That your elders grew by
And so please help them with your youth
They seek the truth
Before they can die.
Reality check....some kids want to play and do not want to practice or get better and their parents support that (deep pockets maybe) and must assume the risks associated that come with using a bat and a ball because that comes with the territory of playing the game.
Find the level of play you desire to participate at and have fun and understand their is inherent risks associated with a ball coming off the bat at 90 to 100 MPH depending on the age group and equipment being used or altered. Additionally, there is also a risk of getting a ball thrown at your daughters face by another kid at 55 to 70 MPH, again depending on the age group and her face becoming the glove (target) because she was not taught how to field it or may not be paying attention and just wanted to be playing with her friends however you the parent should know that already.
Softball and baseball is a game played by kids however it is orchestrated and run by adults and adults do not like to loose to kids or other adults!
If a kid at another level is playing a team that has some competitive kids with coaches who will literally do what ever it takes to win, that kid becomes a statistic and at whose risk or whose fault? All you have to do is go over some old threads to read about what some coaches have done and would do to win, so you can not say it does not happen! So when it does happen do not be shocked!
Any kid wanting to play should be allowed and the parent should be smart or intelligent enough to find the right level of play for their daughters skill level and athletic ability and ................
you the parents Teach Your Children Well or find someone who can!
I have made this suggestion the past 4 years, we need levels like they have in travel hockey and minor league baseball lol.
AAA, AA and A. Once you pick a division you are stuck there for the year, with the exception being your allowed to move up 1 level. So if you have an inexperienced team play in "A" tournaments, if you want to see if the next year your team is ready to make a move enter as a "AA" team and see where you stand lol.
I haven't worked out all the kinks in my theory and I know as with everything we do in life there will be some tools that don't follow the spirit of the rule.
Uber, I agree. Needs to be an "A", "B", and a "C" classification with tournaments for each.
So, where do I find a Napoleonic cannon from the War of 1812? I'm sure my neighbors would love to hear that thing from my back yard on the Fourth of July! Oh wait..........Never mind. I'm sure we'll be at a tournament. Maybe I could fire it off in the hotel parking lot?
I think you mean 33 days. I have trouble with the new Math also.
