Wondering if anyone has ever seen this call before?

Must be a big enough myth that my DD high school coach always said don't touch her before she reaches home plate. We don't want any controversy.

It's been around forever and is one of the most commonly misinterpreted rules I see asked about on baseball and softball discussion boards. I'd definitely put it in the top ten list of Rule Myths.

But what about--home run to end games, batter passes runner from first and they exchange high-fives, and batter touches second before the other player-happened to us in school ball. What is the right call!

A different rule applies on that one. The batter (the trailing runner)
would be out for passing the lead runner.

There's no need for the trailing runner to actually touch the next base before the lead runner does. The instant she passes the lead runner she is out.

Now it gets a little bit trickier...

If there were less than two outs, the offense scores one run on this play (the lead runner, assuming that she properly completes her base running duties to home).

If there are already two outs...

If the pass happened BEFORE first base, then no runs score. This would be regarded as the third out being made by the batter-runner before safely reaching first base.

If the pass happened AFTER first base, then one run would score (the lead runner- again, assuming she completes her baserunning duties to home).

A runner is out if she slaps hands or high-fives other players, after a homerun is hit over the fence. A runner is only out if a player (who is not a runner) or coach physically assists a player in running the bases. As you can imagine, a high-five could not be judged as physically assisting.
See ASA 8-8-E

Is the word "not" missing from your statement? Just making sure - - should it be ....

A runner is NOT out if she slaps hands or high-fives other players....

I wouldn't support that call, even as an opposing coach/manager.
