Poaching other teams

Had a head coach from another organization show up at 12U tryouts with dd to tryout. Everyone knew that he/dd had committed to this other organization as a coach/player. Previous season his daughter was on our 10U team and he was not a coach. Thoughts/comments?

Don't agree with it. From experience when a coach is looking to jump teams/orgs you know it before tryouts. IMO that coach was there to see what talent this team had showing up and cherry pick its better players.

Weak....
Get real!
No way
Sad!
No tact!

The parents had better of been taking mental notes. If he's doing it once... well you fill in the rest

How sad a "parent" would teach their kid its okay to have no integrity.

The coach may have other reasons for being there. If things are not shaping up on the team he is with, he may be trying to find a place for his daughter elsewhere. Coaches' daughters are the ones left behind when a team falls apart, unless the coach gets her out to other tryouts.

perception is king for the potential "poacher"!!

Unfortunately the coach's kids on our team take a beat down to eliminate Daddy Ball comments and perceptions.

I have coached for years up to this point and have never went to another orgs tryouts just seems wiesel-ish. Not coaching this year(other than DD lol) she came to me and said 'if your not coaching for *** then why do I have to play for ***" I didnt have an answer shrugged my shoulders and said its all up to you kid! Most excited I think I have ever seen her about the whole thing:yahoo:

Good thought Sweet16. Coach could be hedging his bets. Not being a coach (NAC), it is a different perspective when viewing circumstances and events through their eyes. Although, I must say that I don't believe this to be the case as the other organization is fairly well established.

I have coached for years with an organization. Today my DD has her first practice with a new organization. I will enjoy myself sitting and watching with my DW.

Perhaps we should give potential poachers the benefit of the doubt. The perception that I was poaching was a reason we didn't attend tryouts. I idn't want my DD to be thought of that way even though we were truly looking for a new team.

Is it classless when a teams coach or orginanization head discredits a coach inorder to persuade a player to come to there team? :cap:

Just to put in my point of veiw. My husband is in the exact situation. 10u daughter played on a 10u team last year. This year she had to move up to 12u. coach stayed down. Team in org needed a coach so he took the job. This is his first year coaching. Here are the reasons that we took our daughter to other tryouts, keep in mind the tryouts where at top notch organizations:

1) To let our daughter see how she stacks up and compares to other girls. This will show her how hard she needs to work. This also is an extra practice.2) My husband also wanted to see how other tryouts are conducted, to evaluate talent.
3) You also learn sooo much. All the things that are not widely known. Camps, practice facility's-opportunity's.
4) Before we even found out about this site coachs that ran in town organizations don't tell you -sorry you didn't make the team but you may try somewhere else here is where you can go to help you out. There is so much out there that we are just finding out about because we are getting out and communicating with others. Most teams are just worried about themselves, and don't think about the kids. IF you are a coach and a girl doesn't make your team do you tell them why what they need to improve on and where they might get some help to improve there skills. No they keep things hush hush. Because they are only worried about there own teams image. At one tryout the coach said if they can't hit this number forget it. Why don't they just say at the beginning this is what we want...

With that being said: He has talked with 2 parents and told them that if they didn't find what they was looking for to come check our team out:)s.

And the last time I checked its all about the girls.

Klump, this coach uses a short term solution to solve a long term problem (effective player recruitment with integrity). Be thankful for the team/organization you are with. It's just an extra bonus he is no longer a parent on your team. I pity the players and parents that buy into his "philosophies". You just might be seeing some of them at your tryouts next year.

Sounds like he knew very well what he was doing. What a nice example to set for his players and parents! I'm glad mt daughter doesn't play for a coach like that!

is this a poaching incident or just leaving for grenner pastures? what was he doing, getting girls' names and phone numbers after tryouts in the parking lot?

He already had the contact information from his dd being on the 10U team. He then started calling parents (of dd's who attended our tryouts) after he attended our tryouts to offer the girls spots on his team. This is a new 11U team.

From what I saw, the old 10U team had a pretty successful season, winning several tournaments and placing in several others. The parents and players seemed to get along pretty well.

You can put a pretty dress on a pig, but it's still a pig.
