Pretty sad a certain team has to poach players during school ball season that were already commited to another team since August. It's Amazing the disrespect some so called "coaches" have for other orgs!!

This topic comes up every couple months. IMO, a player that is happy with their team cannot be poached.

If a player who isn't happy on her own team is free to be poached, then a team that isn't happy with a player at this time of year is also then free to dispatch her with nary a second thought?

Everyone has a right to their opinion just stating mine! I see it all the time with coaches not happy with what they have from tryouts so they have to seek out other orgs players during friendlies, scrimmages, school ball, etc.. if they were a decent coach they would learn how to develop what they have and not what someone else has been developing over the last three years!

The player/parents were obviously not committed to your team and used your team as a rest area. Do you really want a family like this as a part of your team anyway? A few years ago a parent, during a warm-up tourney, tried to show off his kid to me by showing me texts from a coach of another team asking him to jump ship and join her team. It didn't bother me one bit.

If they leave, they leave. Don't be bitter about it. Get another player if you need to and when you get a chance, beat the team she's on.

Great question! It's my opinion that if a team no longer wants my kid on their team, reimburse me properly and I'm good with that.....we'll find another team. Teams are always looking for players. Also, this is why it's important to have some kind of contract in place that defines the potential dismissal possibilities for both the organization and the player.

Although I do not think much about a team or organization that practices this I think this says more about the character of the player and parents in question that the team recruiting them.

Over the years and especially; the past two years. I have had players profiles removed (mostly pitchers) by other teams at showcase events and a phone call made (sometimes the same day) by a parent in the organization that would attempt to get them to jump ship. We have had zero 0 that have left the team as a result....

We have lost players due to finical issues or injuries during the summer in most cases we never picked up and finished with 10 or 11.
We did lose a player two years ago over the winter to another organization that promised the same showcase schedule and no fees....

Needles to say that player ended up disappointed but ,we were able to find a player ?who had never played A travel ball before? that came in worked hard and received a offer in her second tournament playing with us... This is rare but sometimes a diamond can be found when you lose a player...

Did the other team contact the player to recruit them or did the player respond to their ad? Was the other team filling a vacancy they had tried to fill via ads or were they trying to upgrade their roster?

Yes, other teams coach contacted and recruited player, came and watched her play school ball with players already on the team, upgrade to roster.

Out the guy then, theres no place for underhanded actions like that and everyone should know who to watch out for. Complaining about the situation and not doing anything lets them off scott free to continue the practice.

Does the player that will lose playing time know about the 'upgrade' yet? Someone on that team is not going to be happy...

The facts are that I go and see all of my girls play school ball. While at a game, player mentioned along with her family approached me because they were unhappy. No intention on recruiting any player while there, just to see my players and families. Period!

Lesson #1....Its a fact that a group of young athletes that lack motivation will come out on the losing end most of the time.
