The only thing I will add to this discussion is this. I’m aware of one program that was planning on dumping 50% of its players in favor of bringing a new coach from another organization and 50% of his players. All the players stuck it out through the season because they loved playing for this organization and at tryouts it was clear changes were coming. The Coach told them after the tryout they were no longer needed and shipped them down the pike. I believe if you want to leave a team that’s the best time to leave and not waste another minute. Get out of dodge because teams and organizations don’t have a problem sending you down the road.
I agree. Anybody who's been in TB long enough has seen similar situations. Commitment goes both ways and if a coach or organization has no commitment to a player, whether it's to develop them in their primary position such as being a pitcher, then I feel there shouldn't be commitment by a player or family as well. After all, there's only so much time before a pitcher has to perform at a high level whether it's for a HS team or even at the college level. Either way, they need as much circle time as they can get and wasting an entire season not getting any is detrimental to their development. Then again, that's also on the player and family for not choosing a team that she could get some time in the circle unless the coach reneged on his original commitment to giving her some when offered the position at tryouts.
Families nowadays have to look after their own first and foremost because as TB has grown into more of a money grab than anything else, more teams and organizations are looking to win so they can tout their record. How many times have we seen a player replaced mid-season by a better player so they can help them win more games? Turnabout is fair play IMO. If I as a coach do not honor my word, do not continue to develop my players, give them ample playing time, etc, I should fully expect them to leave at any time.
With that said, I agree that a coach shouldn't have worded the post that way. Simply posting 'Looking for a few to finish out a quality roster' or some such would have just as easily sufficed,
