D1 Southwest- Elizabeth VanSant (2nd base), Beavercreek High, Heart Of Ohio Force (Mullaney).

My dd was accepted for the central district, but whatever woman called last night, said if she couldn't commit "100%" right then (10:30 last eveining) for all of the games, she was not able to be on the team. We asked her for some additional time to make the decision, (till 9:00 am this morning) and she whoever was calling, said "no".

OSU's 3 day camp is at the same time as the games. We just needed some time to touch base with the OSU coaching staff and let them know that my dd needed to get out early to attend the tourney.

Kind of disheartening for the dd. But that didn't matter to the person on the phone. Its seemed not about the girls, but them just going through the motions to produce there product. The could give a sh#t about the girls trying to get on at a good university, they have to get the games in, and reap the benefits of the gate proceeds I guess.

She'll be at OSU those days, learning from NCAA athletes and coaches, and I hope all the other good players from the central district told this woman to "shove it" like we did.

I totally see where the poster is coming from. Seems to me they could have given the player time to clear any potential conflicts. Not really sure why a "drop dead" yes or no was needed right then at 10:30pm.

Its a nice honor and all but really not anything more then that. The players came out and went thru a lenghty tryout and gave their all. If they were selected to be part of the team then my guess is they did it on some merit. Some respect should be shown to them if they want to confirm that they won't make a conflict somewhere else. At 10:30pm I doubt that they could have done that so waiting until 9:00 in the morning doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Tryouts were during Summer school and kids are not allowed to miss summer school. My girls take summer school to make it easier on their regular school year since they are two sport athletes. It gives them a study hall.
Kind of a shame they could not hold tryouts at a different time.

You are right, all who know my dd, knows she should have had a spot. Maybe turning down the spot on the roster will help someone else.

I really don't want to get into the bashing of this tryout, but if you look on your tryout forms(4 pages) it states very clearly on the 1st page: 'Do not tryout if you cannot be there on the above dates for the entire tournament'. The tournament dates are listed above this request.

Actually, a name not on the list doesn't mean someone didn't make it. It could mean that someone didn't try out. Some very good players were missing at tryouts. Some of it may be that it interfered with college camps or that they had other conflicts.

Yeah, like playing till 10:00 pm and winning a tournament championship on Sunday night (1st try-out), studying for several Final Exams on Monday night (2nd try out), and playing in a different All-star game on Tuesday night (3rd and final try-out).

Don't know if my dd would have made it or not, but sometimes things just don't work out. The try-out instructions seemed pretty clear to us, and we knew it wouldn't work out this year.
