I called a verbal interfence this weekend on a team.
Situation: Pop fly hit next to fence on the first base side. Opposing team is in the dugout on the first base side. Girl on the bench yells " FENCE" and the first baseman stopped and the ball dropped to the ground.
I had no choice but to call the batter out for verbal interference. Girls tells her coach, " I just didn't want her to hit the fence".
Hate to have to make that call because the player was thinking about the opposing player in unity with sportsmanship.
After the game, I dug into my bag and found a new ball and gave it to her just for "GP" general purpose. The girl had class in my book... even though I had to call her for interfering with the play verbally.
