I got an email from the Lasers and I assume every other team attending their tournament did as well, that they are switching from ASA sanction to NSA. Why would Laser Nation go from an ASA sanctioned tournament to an NSA sanctioned tournament? Why not make the whole tournament a PGF event? You could keep the same format and those that want to play for a nationals bid to California, let them do so. With the rest of the tournament, set it up as Midwest Regional bid. Switching to NSA, what some may consider a dying sanction in Ohio, seems just plain silly.
Is ASA attempting to black ball PGF tournaments by threatening umpires that they won't umpire another ASA tournament if they switch over to PGF? Is ASA threatening tournament directors with the same thing? I'm curious as there seems to be a sudden switch of tournaments deciding to go the PGF route what are the consequences of such?
I'm not attacking anyone and only throwing out some possible scenarios in the search for the truth.

"We have had a quality tournament and are doing what we need to do in order to maintain and even improve it. We are open to your suggestions. I sent a recent email where I mentioned that I like it when there are many games, good competition, no admission or parking fees, no extra hotel costs, many teams so you can see and play against a variety of teams, etc. That is what we are going to do again this year. One problem we had last year was getting enough umpires. In a couple age groups the umpire scheduler could only get one umpire for many pool games. The umpire scheduler said that it was difficult because of another tournament that had been in existence for many years. I found out that our tournament is on the same weekend as that one again. At first I thought that they could get enough umpires this year, but they seemed to complain that we had too many teams. And, we have increased the number of teams this year to over 150. I did not know how many teams that other tournament had until this year (they have about 100). So, to make sure we could get two umpires for each game, I checked into getting another umpire scheduler. They said that they could provide enough umpires for how many teams we have, so we asked them to get umpires for us. That was not my original intent, but it looked like the best (or possibly only) way to go to make sure that we could get two umpires for each game. Therefore we have switched from being ASA to NSA. There won?t be many differences. We already used NSA type rules such as being able to bat more than 9, being able to rotate those batters in defensively, and having the last out being a courtesy runner for the pitcher and the catcher. Besides, there could be a benefit. There is one berth for every 4 teams in our tournament for their nationals. Teams need to sanction with NSA if they have not already done so. My guess is that most teams already sanction with NSA each year. It is a fairly simple two step process. Go to www.playnsa.com. (1) - Click on Coaches at the top, and then click on how to register (if you need to better understand it) or click on register. You will put in your team contact information. It will tell you who to register with (your state or area director) and how. (2) - They will send you a sanction number by email. You will use that sanction number and the password you already selected to put your roster online and then you can print it. I can give you a more detailed explanation of how to register that was sent to me if you want it. I might send it later anyhow just to make sure everyone understands. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call me (Jeff Cavanaugh) at 419-294-3265 or email me. Thanks for your participation and for your understanding."
