slidin,

Nothing wrong with being a homer for your home team. I'm sure you are proud of east's performance yesterday. I was at the game and it was a nailbiter. LE pitched, hit, and fielded well. Good luck the rest of the way. You must admit that Greenville has built a program and has great fan support. I wish our school supported fastpitch as much as Greenville. I'm sure they will be back again next year too.

BTW, who does the pitcher #10 play travel for. She threw nice and located well.

hey there slidin1st, it was kind of a busy evening for me. Got to watch the game after a long day at work, grabbed some dinnerafter that , and got to play with my grand daughter when I got home. Overall not a bad day. When I got around to posting I gave some nice props to Lakota East (they deserved it). Sorry that I was unable to meet your high standard for punctual posting. I will work much harder in the future.

Good luck on Saturday.

megasportsmom I am not sure what Ohio Wave travel teams have to do with this high school thread but I guess I will respond anyway. With regards to our summer travel schedule We play a pretty nice combination of ASA, USSSA and some others. Much of it depends on where we pefer to travel to as well as some other factors. Exposure is what you make of it. I think that our 18U team from last season had 7 or 8 players who went on to play either DI or DII college softball. They seemed to be pretty happy with their efforts over the years. I have been to enough tournament over the years to know that just because a tournament is sanctioned by one body or another does not automatically make it and elite tournament, and vice versa. Most agree that the top ASA events are the ones to be in and we are there. Not that I feel the need to justify it but here is an example of my own 14U teams travel schedule this summer:

Greenville Early Bird (USSSA)
USSSA Southern state
Toledo Tune-Up (USSSA)
Capitol City Showdown (ASA)
WORTH Ohio Wave Classic (USSSA)
USFA State (Dayton Ohio)
GAPPS (ASA)
Stingrays (ASA)
Urbana Summer Slam (16U bracket) (ASA or NSA ?)

We have always hosted USSSA at our place because we have a nice realtionship with them and they have always treated us very well. I have checked into both ASA and NSA for our events and never really saw the need to change. The Indiana teams that come over and play in our events year after year are excellent "A" level teams. We enjoy competeing against them.

As for the other events we attend well I would consider Stingrays, GAPPS, Capitol City Classic, and Toledo Tune-Up to be very good tournaments. They definately work well for our players and parents.

Last year we played down in Cincinati at SluggerFest and won that event. It was an ASA event and we enjoyed it. It did not fit our schedule this season otherwise we would have loved to go back down there.

We have had teams in the Stingrays for the past 4 seasons in all age groups, and the same at SluggerFest. So I guess that I am not really sure what the point is.

Again we wish LE well and hope that they can represent at the state level. It would be nice to see another team from the SW Region bring it home like we did last year.

Have a nice day. :)

Hey Ringer I do not really consider it being a homer, I have no kids on the high school team. I just like to give credit where credit is due. When you see kids work hard, and have success, then you should sing their praise a little bit. I have never shyed away from posting good bad or indifferent.

I can tell you this; Since coach Newland arrived in Greenville 6 years ago they have had excellent success.

Overall 154 wins / 33 losses

2003 record 20 - 10 (Lost District Final ?)
2004 Record 25 - 5 (Lost District Final ?)
2005 Record 27 - 1 (Lost District Final 1-2)
2006 Record 25 - 7 (Lost Regional Final 2-3)
2007 Record 31 - 4 (Won State Championship)
2008 Record 26 - 6 (Lost Regional Semi Final 1-2)

The last two graduating senior classes each won 108 games in their careers. Considering that Greenville graduated 6 4 year starters after last years state title I would say that the system continued to work just fine this season. In the next four years they have more softball talent coming then they have ever had before. I would say that they will continue to be force for the for-see-able future.
