High School Practice Rules

Took my dd's to the cages tonight to hit a few and was told that one of the high school varsity teams has rented out the infield and cages on the weekends and they started 3 weeks ago. I asked the owner if the coach was there and she said that an Ast. coach and some parents are with them also.
According to the OHSAA by-laws doesn't this possibly make them ineligable for 06 ? Just wanting to know if we can also start our organized practices this early.

The high school can be doing conditioning or open gym type of workouts, or even be playing indoor ball, as long as the coaches are not running the sessions. The coaches, if present, are only permitted to observe and ensure the safety of the players; they are not permitted to "give instruction".

After asking some more questions it seems that the Ast. coach was more than a spectator if you know what I mean. Is it really a big deal though ? Is it true that if the school board approves the person to help with the team then he is considered a coach ?

Could be a problem then...

This is as close as the OHSAA gets to defining a coach:

Any fast pitch softball coach, paid or volunteer, (this includes but is not limited to:
teaching professionals, coaches who work for national amateur governing bodies or
other non-interscholastic organizations, club owners, YMCA directors, etc.) shall be
approved by the Board of Education...
