Didn't I see on here awhile back that there's a hotel chain offering a discount for softball? Anyone remember who that was??

I know the local Hilton garden Inn and Holiday Inn knew all about the 15% discount for teams.

I'd try calling the hotel straight up and get the discount if the website doesn't work for you.

Something else you can do is to see what large corporations/businesses are near the hotel you are interested in staying at. Usually, they will have some sort of contract rate with thet business.

I booked a night for this Saturday at a Country Inn & Suites initially for $115. I called back and requested the corporate rate for GM and they reduced the rate to $69. You can usually find this information on the hotel's web site. Always call the hotel directly though. If you go through the call center, chances are you won't get a better rate.

I am a travel consultant and I can tell you that almost all chains offer sports discounts. Choice hotels offers a decent one. That is the company that owns Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn etc. Holiday Inn is also decent. Marriott is not great to deal with.

Many of their websites have a section to go to for sports teams. It's usually on the very bottom in small print. If calling, try to call the main 800 number. You will usually get better results that way.

Hope that helps. Of course if you ever need travel to Disney for a team, I can hook you up. That's who I work for. ;)

Calling up and getting a discount for a company that you don't work for sounds a bit unethical.

I don't think I'll call and use a company I don't work for, but I will check out Choice hotels. Trying to find one for the Loudonville area is nearly impossible this time of year. So expensive or sold out!

All:

I have been using Hotelplanner.com to book our group rooms for years - I have a great GE discount for work purposes, but Hotelplanner usually kills the rate for groups of 11 or more. All you do is put in your city (or even field address), the distance you are willing to drive from hotel, and the rate you are willing to pay - the site sends the request to all the hotels in the area and they "bid" on your group - Doesn't cost you anything for site and your parents can pay individually - works well for us.

We just recently asked a Holiday Inn Express if they honored the Entertainment book, and they said no, but did give us a AAA discount and we don't have AAA. Sometimes they will give discounts if you simply ask.

Great idea. You can use Walmart anywhere.

Nothing wrong with that. They don't ask if you work there, you just ask for the discount and they give it to you. :)

I ended up using my Hampton hotel points. I didn't think I had enough to use, but I guess I'm spending way too much money to earn these points!!! I will keep those other options open for sure because we'll be traveling again...after all...isn't what this isn't that what we do??? Hopefully others benefit from this too. I just had no idea that hotels in the Loudonville area were so expensive and we are not campers!

I never said that I worked for GM. I told the person I spoke with that I am a contractor to GM. That is not a lie and is not unethical. It was their decision to offer the rate. Additionally, my clients have told me to ask for their contract/corporate rate whenever I book a room. Business or pleasure.

Good advice. I often have to make travel arrangements for our team. I'll be looking for for the section on sports teams.
