Is anyone else embarrassed?

OK, I'm confused. Never played at Berliner but I just looked at the satellite photo and I do not see any fields without dirt infields. Now the Pride in Orlando play on a baseball field with a grass infield. DD played in a USSSA tourney at Wide World Of Sports and they had us play a game on a baseball field with a grass infield. I have never been to an ASA tourney with anything other than dirt so what are we talking about with Berliner? DD plays there in October.

That is why local teams generally stay away from Disney. It is mostly a BAD experience.

BAD is putting it mildly. Hated everything about it except we found a nice sports bar that had good food and $7.95 buckets of beer.

The four turf fields at Berliner were just added in the past year. The satellite photo must predate that.

Looks like there are more than enough fields to hold a fastpitch tourney without using those 4 fields. Place looks huge.

Just confused. If you go to the website and in the right corner of the page.. you can see a clip on USSSA Pride winning it last year ??? and look at the field.. It is dirt.. So this is why it confused me on how it could be played on dirt one year and then what they did this year ????

I do know Tommy Voss with IFA used those fields in the past to host his event.... and I know Tommy had a big event and didn't use a baseball field.

That's another reason it confused me.

The first minute of the video is from the 2010 championship game and it's definitely a baseball field. Would the lines be that pristine if they were on dirt?

Yea, you could see in the video from 0:00 to 1:00 that a baseball field is being used.

From 1:00 to the end... it is a dirt infield... so I am figuring that was the other games of the tournament. Actually on a home run clip.. you can see a warning track before the fence.

Maybe they had to go to artifical because of rain.

It definitely looked odd, but they are pro athletes. It's a hurdle (minor) that any true athlete will quickly put behind them. It comes down to hitting and fielding and a grass infield does very little to effect that.

The issue is not whether they were able to compete with the "hurdle" thrown at them. The issue is why did they have to? I wonder what would be said if a tripple A baseball championship game was played on a solid grass infield, no pitchers mound and a temperary fence on a ****** field.

BTW - A grass or turf infield has a dramatic effect on the game - especially at the top levels. As does not being able to create a trench coming off the pitchers plate.

I respectfully disagree.

I'll agree that is has an effect, but a DRAMATIC effect is an embellishment.

If you ask the players I'm sure they would tell you that it created an interesting dynamic, but wasn't enough to make them second guess playing. I'm sure some even enjoyed it.

I agree the issue is WHY? It's ignorant. Yea the girls could play using a baseball which would create an interesting dynamic but why? A handball would be an interesting dynamic. LOL Maybe a super ball. Maybe play without gloves, that would be interesting. LOL

I like the super ball idea. Do they even sell those anymore?

Back in the day, when we were bored at work, we used to go out and hit golf balls with a baseball bat. That was fun! I hit a moon shot one night that cleared the cooling tower, and went into the adjacent parking lot.

Just one activity of many to pass the time on rotating shift work.

Best home cooking I ever had. Been there many times and never had a bad meal.

Super ball as a kid...LOL Use to use a wiffle ball bat and we would play in a lot next to this big old tall brick building in my hometown. You hit it over the building it was a home run, could catch hits off the side of the building for outs, etc...

Hit through one of the two windows only on the side of the building... everybody chipped in and bought the window pane glass....LOL

Athletes in Action is checking out the thread...LOL...

WE LOVE the Athletes in Action facility in Xenia, Ohio. Artifical turf outfields. Rain quits and you are on in 15-20 minutes.

Just a plug for you Athletes in Action people !!!!!!!!

I will find out this week. We practice at the same field (Osceola HS) as the Pride does and I am sure some of them will still be around.

I respectfully disagree as well. The short game is DRAMATICALLY different. Even though the pros play on rock hard infields, the overspin on hard grounders off turf is very different - and faster. Even the commentators were commenting about how unfair it was for the pitchers because of the pitchers plate area.

But as I said earlier. None of that is important. The issue is "why"?

In the context of what the coach is saying, I figure those are clips from the regular season. You can tell it is a couple different fields by looking at the stands behind the plate.

I got a call into Joey. She'll be able to tell me why it played on a field like that.
