Is anyone else embarrassed?

That's what I heard was their main concern in Warren County and their plans.

Blood and all the other stuff.

I've been reading these posts and I have to say there are a lot of misconceptions about turf fields. I help run the Athletes in Action Sports Complex near Dayton and we have six turf fields including a completely turfed baseball field and two softball fields with turf outfields.

There is nothing anymore "unsafe" about sliding around on turf than the inherent risks of sliding at all. The turf used today is much different than the old school astro turf. S***** player dive and slide around on it all the time and we all know how much tougher softball players are :).

I have seen baseball games played in all kinds of weather and while you do slide further on the turf I have never seen anyone slide past the base.

The game is faster especially on hard hit balls to the outfield. Good players adjust and take correct angles to the ball. As an outfielder I would have much preferred to play on turf than uneven grass outfields. The turf takes away bad hops.

While turf is low maintenance there is still a considerable amount of work to keep the quality up and ensure a long life. The fields must be groomed, the rubber evened out, and high traffic areas like batters boxes and areas around the base, must be replaced.

We've had the fields in use for five years and have never had an issue with staph infection. There is powder you pour over blood or puke and hose it down.

Using a vacuum to get up the chalk won't work because you pull up all of the rubber along with the chalk. Just use a hose and wash it out.

My suggestion would be to put a dirt circle in at 43'. You can put down temporary rubbers at shorter distances and chalk a circle.

Yes playing on turf requires some adjustments but you will nearly eliminate rain outs, and all of the headaches that go along with them.

I seen you looking in... yesterday.....LOL

Glad you came to post.

You have an absolutely wonderful facility there in Xenia, Ohio. Actually, I haven't seen but a small handful any better. In Ohio...none.

I know when I played HS baseball many years ago... you go to one HS and it was dirt and then go to another it was grass infields.

You have to adjust as a player and go on and play.

OK - lets replay the original beef.....

A championship pro fastpitch game was played on a baseball field with no adjustments to the surface to even make it look like a softball field. That is the embarrassment. If technology changes and the needs of the sport dictates a change in the field surface then we will all be for it. But to play a game of that magnitude on that surface now was simply crazy.

I looked at the pictures of the game, looks like an all turf field. How are they supposed to make it look like a softball field, paint it?

As a softball purist, I'd rather they played the game on a dirt infield. I'm not sure why they played the game in a non-NPF town. Wouldn't it have been better to play the game in the Akron Racer's stadium with the stands full of people?

Does anyone have the box scores? Maybe a link to the box scores? I have searched and found many articles of the games, but haven't been able to find box scores. Thanks

According to the one link that had reports... they believe the hot weather kept many fans away from the event.

Now, me.. I think many stayed away because the location is all wrong. Why would you have the event in a state that has no team?

Look at the four teams and their locations..... and tell me why Louisiana?

One suggested Chicago because they built their new stadium there. But, like many sports... fair weathered locations is best.

I don't understand the baseball field usage, as well.

I will find out this week. We practice at the same field (Osceola HS) as the Pride does and I am sure some of them will still be around.

I respectfully disagree as well. The short game is DRAMATICALLY different. Even though the pros play on rock hard infields, the overspin on hard grounders off turf is very different - and faster. Even the commentators were commenting about how unfair it was for the pitchers because of the pitchers plate area.

But as I said earlier. None of that is important. The issue is "why"?

I'll be interested to hear their opinions.

I agree the issue is WHY? It's ignorant. Yea the girls could play using a baseball which would create an interesting dynamic but why? A handball would be an interesting dynamic. LOL Maybe a super ball. Maybe play without gloves, that would be interesting. LOL
Now your just being silly. I understand that's how you roll though. Sarcasm noted.

LOL. Yep, that's only one of the ways I roll. Multifaceted you know. :cap:

And fastpitch on turf is silly too. :D

How about not play on that type of field?

I got a note from Ms Joey this morning. She states that the Sulpher Parks and Rec and the City were great hosts and thier financial backing helped get the game on ESPN.

My own opinion here... but it must have been worth the baseball field to get help on ESPN television costs and get the game out to the world.

Ms. Joey said they might be adding another team to the league... :yahoo:

More home games for the Racer fans. Great news.:yahoo::yahoo:

Us Ohioians need to support the Racers as much as we can do so. Go to the games.

When in July of 2011, I sent the tournament girls to the Racers game and it rained in the second inning.. and the women of the Racers came up and sign and talked to every single girl in the stands... they won my heart.. as they made little 8 to 10 year old girls feel "special" and gave them a lifetime of memories and the girls had eyes like this

If EVER I have an event in the NE corner and the Racers are in town that weekend.. so help me God my tournament girls are going to the game free on me.

I am praying the Racers get a home stand on June 8th-10th, 2012 as we are in Dover having an event.

I'll vote. I watched the game and thought the field was wrong and hope not to see it again, but not sure I'm embarrassed. At least it was televised.
