Thank a Republican. the house and senate were controlled by the republicans for 6 years along with the white house so don't blame it on the democrats. the repubs could have changed anything they wanted but focused on the iraq blunder instead of real issues important to hard working americans.
know what i sayin?

blameing a republican for high gas prices is like blameing your pencil because your handwrting sucks, if your looking for someone to blame try the special intreset groups mainly the enviromentalists,(wich have a strong democratic supporting) they tried Alaska for oil and i believe it was a democratic president that signed against it killing the proposal, if he hadent of done that there would have been sufficent time to pump oil to the US and maybe we wouldent be in this mess....oh wait i forgot we havent built a refinery in this country in 30 years to help increase the amount of oil we can get from the ground and whos stopped that?... i believe that was a democratic majority ruled decision also, i hope you enjoy paying 5 to 7 bucks a gallon for gas folks, cause its coming,,, and maybe just maybe after you do it for a while then youll smarten up ,,,,,but i doubt it

RIGHT ON BOULDERSDAD!!! You hit it square on the head!!! If we had been pumping oil out of Alaska the last several years new refineries might be in the process of being built. ;)

Just a quick fact on the Alaskan Oil fields -- The oil being pumped out of Alaska belongs to BP - British Petroleum. They do not sell their oil through OPEC. Their costs have not changed as the OPEC producers have. BUTTT they are getting the same amount per barrel of crude as the Arab nations are. Why sell oil at $75 a barrel when they can sell it for $123 per barrel just like every one else?? So basicly the Britts are pumping our oil out of our country and reselling it back to us yanks and making a killing. America is sitting on one of the largest oil reserves ever found in this hemisphere - Gulf Of Mexico - US Waters - but because of all of the global warming freaks we can't tap it in fear of endangering the environment. It's not a Republican thing or a Democrat thing it's an environmental wacko thing. JMHO :p :p :p

Interesting topic Bigpimpin (way cool screen name, btw) ?:D

I agree with Manitou Dan that this energy supply problem is much more complicated than just our U.S. political parties, and there is plenty of blame to go around.

Sorry folks, I looked up a little info, and I'm about to go all Al Gore with it, lol. ?Feel free to skip over the lecture below, it will not be on the test. ? ;)

As we all know, the overwhelming majority of the world's energy supply is from fossil fuels (they are called fossil fuels because they are formed from the fossilized remains of dead plants and animals).

Examples of these fuels are methane, liquid petroleum and anthracite coal----and these are non-renewable resources precisely because they take millions of years to form.

Here's a breakdown of worldwide energy production I found (yes, I know it doesn't total up to exactly 100 ? ;D), and I think it's criminal:
86% ?= ?burning fossil fuels
6.3% = ?hydroelectric
6.0% = ?nuclear
0.9% = ?geothermal/solar/wind/burning waste

I guess one way to think of the situation is to compare the country to a sinking boat. ?The water's getting higher, we're sinking faster but we keep trying to bail it out with the same old rusty pails we've used for over a century. ?

The Middle Eastern countries have a few more buckets, but it's gonna cost you an arm and a leg and the blood of many soldiers.?:'( ? ?There are some buckets in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico, but we've got to tear another hole in the boat to get at them. ?:-/

Why are we still using century old ideas and resources when we could save ourselves, patch the holes in the bow or even build a newer, better ship with new technology and run it with less costly, renewable resources??? ? ?I'll tell you why---it's because it has not been in the interests of big business.

As soon as the big oil guys figure out a way to charge you for sunlight, wind and photosynthesis---I can guarantee our dependence on fossil fuels will end. ? :p

(btw---just paid $4.00/gal last night) ?:'(

katjoe, that was, dare i say, kat-tastic!

not to mention that Bush is keeping 70,000 barrels a day pumped into the reserve (that is already 97% filled!) that could alleviate maybe a nickle of the costs to americans,
then, to make matters worse, he's called every oil-rich country, the "axis of evil"...guess what, pres, you keep calling out the venezuelan president, he no give you oil cheep no more (notice the speedy gonzalez accent!)
and every inventor that has come up with a way to use trash/water/cooking oil/ethanol as an alternative mysteriously winds up dead in some river, bloated like a politician and smelling quite worse...
AND that the crooks at OPEC/Shell/Mobile/BP etc, are making millions! ?why aren't they taking a hit? ?

:-[

back to softball, i best not pay one gate fee or be denied cooler intrances or it's on!

Looks like I'll be sitting with you and Hilliarddad in the paranoid conspiracy theorist's bleachers this summer. ?I think somebody said it was way out in left field?!? ??;) ;D

THANK YOU KAT!!!

Finally someone pulled their head out of the sand and stated the real solution. Now, if only I could find my voter registration card showing I registered for the Whig party... With logical thinking like that, you should make a run for pres... OH I forgot - common sense doesn't get elected!!

The current price of a barrel of oil has less to do with the amount of oil being produced as it does with the weak dollar and speculative investors.

I'm at work, so I can't sum up the info, so at the risk of Ringer making fun of me for providing more links here are some interesting articles for your perusal...

What can we do? Besides wearing tin foil hats and blaming everyone under the sun, we can do the one thing that will lower gas prices; use less gas.

Buy cars that get no less than 30 mpg. Buy a hybrid car. Carpool when possible. Plan your trips so that you reduce stops. Combine trips. Get a tune up. Keep your tires properly inflated. Have your gas cap tested for leaks.

Here are a few ideas...

We are using a million barrels a day less than a year ago, but the prices go up like a sneeze because they can. 20 centts yesterday and no catastrophe anywhere...

If this is not collusion, then nothing is...... Vote em all out and start over.... Both sides I don't care, but do something...

As far as building refineries, in who's backyard is what you'll hear and it will take 5 years. Carpooling, public transportation will help, but 5.00 by memorial day I will bet. That's about Hurricane threat time on June 1.....

Anyone want to bus to Compuware?? Toledo??? ;D
