Obviously you are entitled to your opinion, just curious, any particular reason ranking Southview #4 (when they return most of their hitters and their battery) and Springfield #2 (considering the loss of some key hitters and Michalek with no "proven" starter replacing her)?

This is not intended to "start anything" just wondering if you know something I don't.

I was wondering the same thing. I was curious about AW being #1, I know they lost a lot and return Bores and Kurf, that would be one heck of a reload if them and Springfield are the top 2 teams. Both schools lost some 4 and 3 year letter winners, thats tough on a coach to replace that kind of expierence and talent.

Springfield returns three 1st team all NLL and District players, I believe, in Rockman, Cowdrey, and Gibson. Also Shipman and Fillipi started last year and made the Adidas all star team selected from dozens of girls from all over Great Lakes region. Add the freshman Buck as pitcher and you will have team not only challenging in the NLL but also in the disrict. They may more in reserve.

I'm with you on what it means to have returning 1st teamers...but the point about the pitcher is my concern for Springfield. She is a freshman about to pitch in the NLL, arguably one of the toughest leagues top to bottom in the state, definitely the toughest in Northwest Ohio in my opinion, and that will be a tough adjustment I would think. Olivia O'Reilly is a four year varsity starter (although only three as a pitcher) on a team that only graduated 3 starting positions...

No disrespect intended to the Springfield pitcher, I do not know her, she might be dynamite and unfazed by the NLL. I guess that would explain it.

1. Perrysburg (With Rich's Experience last summer she will get it done)
2. Southview
3. Anthony Wayne
4. Maumee (Poised to take the next step)
5. Springfield (Starting a freshman pitcher, wildcard)
6. Norhtview
7. BG
8. Rossford

I have been out of the loop lately considering I do not reside in the area anymore so I will base my predictions of last year and what I know of what is coming up.

First off, the SV and PBurg is a complete tossup. I feel both of the teams are in a league of their own. AW will be there if E. Kurfis plays. She also picked up some valuable experience last summer. AW is hurting in in talent coming up also. May play a roll in it.

After those three I am going to pick Maumee. Jim Hall has that program moving in the right direction and some good young players coming up that have been in his program for a few years now. Feeder programs are very important and he has done a wonderful job building one at Maumee. Springfield is bringing back some tough position players however I know from experience that it is very mentally challenging to pitch in the NLL as a freshman. Fatigue is a factor as the #1 if you pitch a majority of the games as a senior let alone a freshman. So we will see how the new up and coming "Studet" will handle those challenges. The Freshman and 8th grade classes are loaded with position players ( IMO, the best in the NLL). They also have a "Super Studet" pitcher in the 8th grade and WOW! can this kid hit too. IMO could have been hitting at the varsity level as a 7th grader. Springfield is a couple years away. But mark my words they will be a very good team in 2 years. That is if no one quits, or enrolls and any of the private schools ;).

I do not know much about NV other than we handled them very well last year and they have a very experienced coach.

Rossford and Bg is a tossup for me. Rossford pitching will be their challenge. As for BG they had our number last year. I was impressed with their fight. Since everyone is puting them down at the bottom I am thinking you may know something I dont.

I look forward to watching from a far. I do plan on dropping in on a few games this Spring when I am in town.

I?m new to this forum, but I thought I?d offer the little insight I have about NLL softball. With this move back to 43 feet, I truly believe defense will be what wins games this year. Everyone will be hitting, and it?s the teams that are able to make the plays that will be successful.

Southview does have Olivia, however she has been the pitcher for the last two years and everyone has seen her. Yes, she is an excellent hitter as well, but I believe her and intentional walks will become very close friends this season (AW walked her a lot last year, and I?m sure this will not change). With this potential limited impact of Olivia, who will lead this team? Even if she does have a good season, one player does not make a team.

Despite the loss of their pitcher and catcher/center fielder, Perrysburg will still have a good shot at the league title. Lindsey Rich will make a huge impact, however many teams who faced her last year put up multiple runs. Nevertheless, the work over the summer will help her as a pitcher. Perrysburg also returns many hitters and a great coach.

As for Anthony Wayne, they did lose a lot of power hitters. Though, hitting may not be their strength this year, defense will be. I say this because they will only need to fill a catcher and one infield position. Defense wins games. Despite other thoughts, their hitting will not be that bad, they just cannot rely on the long-ball. I know they will have to overcome injuries as well; Bores received knee surgery last season and now I have heard that her other knee is hurt; she may have to rely on temporary fixes to get through the season. Who knows about Kurfis anymore, but what's with this senioritis thing? Hoffman, their previous third basemen seems to have some arm injuries as well, from what I have heard. I'm not sure about any serious injuries from other teams.

As for the other teams, they cannot compare to the experience and talent of these three teams. It all depends on who?s healthy, and who?s hot this season. We?ll see at the beginning of May how everything turns out!

What a nice difference of perceptions. Let me look into my Wizard crystal ball and see what the future holds for the NLL this season.
It's hard to argue that Perrysburg/Southview/Anthony Wayne will battle. I left out Springfield relunctantly but I would not be surprised if this is a 4 way battle. Gwozdz has been masterful as a head coach and Bri Buck is one of the hardest working players around. I would not be surprised or disappointed if any of the 4 ends up on top.... look for a 3 way tie.
Give Kyle another couple of years and Northview will be right back up there. Rossford will continue to struggle until they build a better feeder program. They are a small school with many multi-sport athletes and one of their better players is now going to a Catholic school in Toledo. Their past success can be partially credited to Hank Everitt and his dedication to travel ball.
Maumee is hard to predict. Being good in junior high is not a guarantee that they will be able to compete in high school. So far, the varsity team has not seen the success that some expected but it does take some time for the feeder to take affect. The NLL needs Maumee, BG and Rossford to move up the next step to compete against the upper tier of the league. Good luck to all of the teams. It should be fun to watch.

Wow, sounds like an exciting year of NLL softball is coming up soon. I don't have a prediction for the NLL league because this is my daughter's first year of high school softball and I haven't seen a lot of the teams in action. I do know that the NLL is loaded with talent. I want to thank all the Maumee High School coaches for all their hard work in helping to prepare our daughters for high school softball through the Maumee Thunder program. All the freshman girls coming in are really looking forward to making contributions to help Coach Hall's team be succesful. Good luck to all the teams. Go Maumee in 2011!!!!!!!!

Should be an exciting year....and to jump ahead with Rossford moving out of the NLL and Naopleon joining the league is going to get more interesting. Can't wait.

I have to agree with most of the predicitions about the SV/PBurg/AW. Springfield will be right there as well. Dont ever sell Rob or that program short (not that anyone has). I know NV plays tough, especially at home and Steve gets the best out of his kids every game. Coach Hall gets his girls fired up to play for him and they are feisty. Rossford and BG will always battle. This is a great time of year! Love NLL softball!!!

I guess you threw a big comfy blanket on the entire league. That is sweet. :)

I just thought it was sweet. I have no dog in this fight. Which means I am not emotionally attached.
All is good.

Should be a wild year in the NLL. Springfield, by far, should be the league champs. With all that hitting, it should be a team that continues to put up a lot of runs. Then, it is wide open. Bowling Green, Perrysburg, Southview, Anthony Wayne, and Napoleon all replace their main starters from last year on the mound. Coach Watson takes over for Coach Hall at Maumee and Northview also has a new coach (not sure who). Should be a lot of fun!!!!

Someone told me that the new coach for Northview is Todd Omey. Not sure if that is correct or not, but that is what I heard.

No longer have a daughter playing HS ball...so being as objective as possible...I think Springfield will run away with the league...no one else will be close. They are so strong fundamentally, have a great coach, almost all their players play higher-level travel in the summer, and they have strong pitching/hitting. Anthony Wayne, Southview and Perrysburg will battle for the #2 spot as they have sound coaching, strong feeder programs, and good fundamentals...only unknown for me on these two is their pitching. After playing against all these programs for the past 4 years, I have nothing but respect for these teams and their respective coaches!

The thing I learned in the two years since my DD started playing NLL softball.....#1 is that Springfield is absolutely loaded with great players and even greater people...and #2 is that anything can happen come tournament time....should be a fantastic season...

Probably should start a new thread, but...
Here's my thinking for the 2013 NLL

1. Springfield - too much returning firepower, including the now "sensational sophomores" and Bre Buck on the mound
2. Anthony Wayne - Proven historically to be a solid pick at or near the top
3. Perrysburg - lost starting pitcher and key hitters
4. Southivew - lost 1st team NLL pitcher, not sure who will take place
5. Maumee - Fowls on mound gives them a shot
6. Bowling Green - Lost #1 pitcher, not sure they have anyone coming up
7. Napoleon- totally unknown to me but lost their #1 pitcher
8. Northview - not enough pitching
