So,my ? would be with giving out uniforms, sweatshirts, etc. do you give the team money for this or the clothing there on the spot not knowing the sizes, also, if its money would the team have the choice of where they order unforms?

this is one thread that went off the deep end and now has found its course again....good reading over the yuletide season...i do have some questions..

1. so whats the big deal about a TD having a team in the tourney? David hosts a tourney every fall, no one seems to bat an eye (in all i think this term is relative to who lost that specific tourney)

2. so why would making an error or striking out bother a girl if her team was getting a cash prize? isnt softball a team game? isnt it all about the moments that led up to a strike out with bases loaded (again, i'm playing devils advocate cause it sometimes does come down to an individual performance, doesnt it??)

3. bear, you know respectable ofc members? print that list, pronto...haha

4. quaker--you're the shizz, dont let anyone tell u different. we loved playing in your wilmington last year, if that was indeed your event..

5. ringer, great comics as usual..now if mrs ringer can use that advice when she's berating statman in the off-topic threads that would be nice...

And now, an important question...

How can I get off Bear's list?

Being an active OFC member AND being on Bear's list seems a conflict of interest. And we already have enough of THAT in this thread.

IFA - INDEPENDENT FASTPITCH ASSOCIATION
Ohioquakerman is the region 10 and Ohio director. We are involved in a discussion with OHSAA over the prizes we want to give at our tournaments this summer. IFA is new to Ohio. I believe that given time IFA tournaments will be the ones that teams will seek out. "We don't want to be the biggest, We just want to be the Best".

If you would like to read more about IFA, just visit our website. http://www.ifasoftball.com/

One of the biggest things to happen here in Ohio is the 10u World Series will be held in Cincinnati this coming summer.

ALL teams that enter an IFA event will have their names put in a drawing at the conclusion of the tournament. There will be a $1000.00 drawing and a $500.00 drawing. When the TD goes to draw the name, just make sure he/she draws the right team names..wink..wink.;&

Stateman Ray, if you played in the one in late JUne...yep that was mine. That's the one I had to bring in a helicopter to play on Sunday.

Uniform sizes, sweatshirt sizes, etc... MY guy has all sizes there at the tourney... the girls try it on,, get fitted... I buy them right on the spot and he send them to the coach or team Mom. UNiforms are different though. I pay $40 per uniform based on 15 players on a team.

Interesting and thought-provoking reading for sure. I have had issues with a lot of OHSAA rules over the years, but I have to say that this is one rule I both agree with, and don't see the OHSAA ever overturning. I respect very much what Quakerman is trying to do with his organization and to make the sport better. But I think if you open up things to allow teams to receive money awards, I think you're opening up a whole can of worms in amateur athletics.

As for drawing the line between cash awards and things like uniforms or sweatshirts, tournament berths and trophies, that admittedly could be problematic. Trophies have no real monetary value I guess ... just a recognition of an accomplishment and/or a remembrance of an event. The way I always looked at tournament berths is that the sponsoring organization was not really giving a monetary award but showing a willingness to send the top team(s) on to represent the organization at the national level.

I guess a question I would ask Quakerman and any others who feel there is nothing wrong with monetary awards or uniforms, is why? Why is it necessary to give those awards out? Do you really think the kids want those kinds of awards vs. a trophy or a nationals berth? If your attempt is to share some of the profits back with the teams, why not just either charge less or give all the participating teams back a "rebate"?

Regardless of how I or Quakerman or anyone else feels, the OHSAA has made it pretty clear how they feel about monetary awards, and for anyone to ignore that because they don't agree with it or feel it will be overturned, and to risk the amateur status of your children or players in the meantime is just foolish and irresponsible in my humble opinion.

Except of course for that little thing known as integrity. If everyone knows that you just worked around the rules in some cute fashion and yet you still knew the rules, then I guess they would all have to decide how to percieve you. There are many rules that we do not like in life thats for sure. However if we start to show our youth that we will simply avoid the rules by some creative method because they do not suit us, then perhaps we will get what we deserve.

I think MD was being being sarcastic. Choosenone is just jelous of all of us. we are the ones he/she wants to be like. As soon as all of this is settled he/she will crawl back under the rock they came from until they find another thread to belittle the fine people of OFC.
