You are right about that. You made my point the county can not give the CVB money without them being accountable to the tax payers. What i am saying is that any money that comes from the CVB has to be approved by some one in county gov.

Quakerman does all of this stuff to give back to the girls, why do some people have to find fault in what he is doing?

We have a person here in Ohio trying to do everything he can to give the young ladies here the best tournaments possible and a small number of people have to try and drive him into the ground.

This board serves as a wonderful communication outlet for many and is basically good. There are many negative people on here who love to find the bad in things just as there are the grandstanders who love to hear themselves talk and be told how great they are, while digging at others. I have no use for the grandstanding or negativity but it is part of this board so I deal with it. Rock on Quakerman.

And yet, there's a lot of money and time spent on tournaments - I don't think it's unreasonable to ask questions, especially about new tournaments. The questions can be answered and everyone will be ahead.

Well said AnotherSoftballMom I think that being able get information out to the softball community in Ohio is important and the OFC is a huge tool for doing that. Along with that sometimes comes questions and more importantly the chance to answer them. It looks to me like Tim is doing a good job answering any questions thrown his way.

I agree, Tim has done a great job fielding questions, negativity, and other comments. I've enjoyed meeting with Tim and his passion and thoughts on how to give back. Whether it's for the girls, the team, the parents, whomever; it's about softball for Tim and keeping it simple and economical. His job is to get teams to play in IFA Tournaments and those tournaments be compeititve. He pitched us here in Marion, Ohio and we were happy with what he had to say and his passion. RVBFY Complex was happy to allow Mid Ohio Bombers to host our NIT Tournaments. We have updated our Tournament Prizes from giving the cash to what everybody has said girls want to recieve when winning a tournament. Keep up the good work Tim, someday everyone will see what a benefit you are to girls fastpitch softball!

Where he is from, up in the Youngstown area... it's a whole different ballgame. Mahoning county CVB has no money to give. They are connected at the hip with another county. Mahoning County CVB people was great in getting great room rates from their motels.

Clermont County CVB bidded on my tournament the Uniform Blowout based on the amount of teams from last fall's event in Chillicothe. That's my money. I can spend it anyway I wish. I signed a contract to hold the event and gave it a rain date (actually two) and because I liked them very much... I brought in the 14u Championships and they didn't have to bid on it.

But, clearly understand.. bid money is bid money... and in reality it is mine to do what I please with it. If the uniform Blowout is not played then I have to give it back. This is why I have two rain dates for it as well....lol What's the chances that it gonna rainout three weekends....lol

And when I get the bid money amounts for the two Nationals (14u and 10u) I don't mind telling you what the amount is... as some of it will go to me, some of it will go to my TD's to make their prizes and profit for their organization better and the rest goes to making the National event the best event ever held... or at least we hope. I guess we shall see.

But, I have no problem with telling you about bids and how the whole process works.

Then it maybe makes people question, " Hey, why isn't other organizations giving back"

Answer: They don't have to... plain and simple.

I hope when you say, " Hey, why isn't other organizations giving back", you are referring to other sanctioning organizations; i.e. IFA, ASA, USSSA, etc.

Other sanctioning bodies, Edge....lol... I don't see them giving back to their tournament directors and the TD's organization who they are trying to make money for. I see take, take, take... and thank you for running my association's name (fill in the blank) tournament and filling my pocketbook. Thanks again..... lol

And here is the funny part. Whenever a local national is in town (2008 - NSA World Series) or (2009 ASA 14-u "B")... the best part is watching TD's switch over to what is in the area so everyone can qualify by oversatuating the area.

I can remember when ALL the associations would NOT allow a TD to have a mix bag of association tournaments. Those days have changed for sure..... it's about money and greed and watering down the REGIONAL Nationals to make it just another tournament.

Who are these rouge organizations and seedy people. We've worked with both USSSA and ASA and they've both been focused on the "right" things. Denny Rose from USSSA has bent over backwards for us and Warren Jones from ASA is right there also. Who are these money grubbing TDs? Maybe we've just been lucky in our tourney selections.

Quakerman,
Are you still allowed/permitted to umpire for other sanctioning organizations? If not, are you done umpiring? I always thought you handled yourself well on the field and had control of the games you did!

OQM does that mean that you will not allow any organization that runs one of your IFA tournaments to also run a tournament with another sanction on a different date? Just curious. After all we would not want to see you associated with anyone who is associated with associations who are greedy and interested in watering down or whatever else you call it.

edgeoo I think that OQM even umpired for tournaments of many different sactions. Wonder if he will allow umpires who work for IFA to also work for other sanctions (ie. the enemy).

It is illegal ... and I want to express ILLEGAL, to tell umpires who work for me that they cannot umpire other association events. Can't do that.

Yes, I will be umpiring other associations when I'm not traveling to other states, (ILL and PA and WV )holding IFA Qualifiers in those areas because I don't have state directors yet and Ohio has me busy as well. Obviously, I have went into some areas such as Dayton and Cincinnati and picked out the best umpires I can find ( as I have been in the Cincinnati and Dayton associations for years) and got umpires to commit to my events on certain weekends there are IFA events. I pay them more. I have a crew that will be traveling to PA, WV and ILL with me when I go run qualifiers.

Wave, my statement was did you or have you ever saw any association give back to the TD and the organization running one of the tournaments under their sanctioning body name... have you ever seen an orgainzation give back to the TD to help with prizes? I haven't seen it.

And yes, to be able to run an IFA event.... you can't run another sanctioning body's event. I'm old school. Why would I give $1500.00 dollars to an organization for running an IFA event... and then watch them run another sanctioning body event as well.

The $1500.00 dollars is their's to do with whatever they wish to do with it. They can give it out in prizes or they can use it for their organization. I don't care... it's my way I let them know.. thank you for running an IFA event.

This money comes from the National bid monies. I could just put that National bid money in my pocket.. but I made a decision to help the girls out when I took this job and thank the TD's and organizations for running IFA events.

This is why I limited the amount of IFA events instead of satuating the market so bad just because a National is in the area. It's not about money... it's about making a true national facing another team that won something to get there.

Edamame: What can I say about you except you seem to have a problem...lol...with the way I run my organization and my ideals. So keep playing those 1:10 minute games. At least I try to give the kids their money's worth. We had a great time in Chillicothe in the Fall playing whole games. Teams loved it. I'm glad they did.

ohioquakerman said "It is illegal ... and I want to express ILLEGAL, to tell umpires who work for me that they cannot umpire other association events. Can't do that."

Is this puishable by law? Who would prosecute such an offense?

I find that your comment about going into the Dayton and Cincinnati areas and picking out the "best umpires you can find" to be an interesting one. You state that you were in these associations for years and now you just go in and take them away from places that they have worked for years. You also say that you can do this because you will simply pay them more money. Well I thought that in many previous posts you supported paying the umpires a flat $30.00 per game and in fact even having the teams pay the umpire directly in an effort to save money. Isn't this somewhat contradictive? Won't the fact that you are going to pay umpires more add directly to the increased cost of a tournament? Where does this benefit player. Also if you go in and "pick out the best" umpires from the Dayton and Cincinnati markets won't this ultimately dilute the pool of umpires in those areas and therefore give the players a subpar experience in other tournaments? Maybe it is only important that players have a nice experience at your tournaments and the heck with how hard other organizations or towns worked to create a decent pool of umpires. You will simply pay more and entice them to leave their local area. Not really sure how this makes the game better, other then maybe for you and your tournaments.

I also find it really interesting that you clearly stated that "And yes, to be able to run an IFA event.... you can't run another sanctioning body's event. I'm old school. Why would I give $1500.00 dollars to an organization for running an IFA event... and then watch them run another sanctioning body event as well." and yet it looks like one of your TD's is running both ASA and IFA tournaments some in Zanesville and some in other locations but nonetheless the same TD running two different sanction tournaments. Interesting.

Ohioquakerman for your information I do not have a problem with how you run your organization. However, consistancy is important especially when you make a regular habit of cutting on other sanction organizations and how they and their TD's run their tournaments.....and why they run them. I guess that you can consider me your accuracy monitor. Just for your information I did not play any 1:10 minute games at all. My rickity old bones would not allow me to. I do however enjoy watching the players play the games and to the best of my knowledge the last two tournaments that I saw were both full game formats so that is not unique to IFA or NAFA tournaments in any way shape or form.
