Rules question?

Can the coaches help the batter by telling them the location of the pitch, either inside or outside? ?We played a team where the coach would say one word for an inside pitch and another one for the outside pitch. ?Once our catcher set up outside or inside he would call the location with the code word. ?We obviously quit moving our catcher, but isn't this illegal to call locations?

No. If you watched the US National team play Japan. ?The runners were calling out the pitches so the Catcher was moving so much the umpire called time out, because she stood up. ?Another one that coaches catch is how your catcher or coaches tell what pitch to throw. If they figure out you are going to throw a change up, they will let the hitter know what is coming. ?A good catcher will mix things up so the offense doesn't catch on.

Thanks SB. Never ran into this being done in such an obvious manner.

No rule against it, but it's easy to fix.

Have your catcher set-up as far as she can low and outside. Then throw a high pitch on the inside corner. Your catcher can shift in as the pitcher is delivering the ball.

A few of those will either put an end to it, or have the batters so confused that they won't know what to expect.

Bretman,
Effective and appropriate strategy, but how did you, of all people, miss the all important step?: ?before setting, catcher discreetly whispers to the ump, "Careful here blue".
LOL - Let's remember the importance of showing a little respect for the plate ump.

HA! Sometimes I would appreciate that warning from the catcher! I've never had one, but that's why I'm wearing $300 worth of protective gear...
