Situation: tournament is nsa qualifier, team #1 is at the field of play ready to play at 12:30 which is the scheduled game time. It?s raining but there is no delay in the tournament game time. Team #2 is 24 minutes late ,they were sitting in the parking lot in their cars staying out of the rain.. If team #1 is on the field ready to play and throws a pitch does team 2 forfeit? thanks

Not sure. May depend on tourney rules. But it seems to me that if the opposing team is not at the field ready to play by the end of the grace period, the team that is there wins on a forfeit. For some reason it sticks in my head that the score is 7-0 for the purposes of pool play tie breakers but , again, I'm not positive.

Some of the tourney rules also state that you have to be ready as much as 30 minutes before starting time, in case tourney starts running ahead of schedule (very seldom).

Team #1 can't throw a legal pitch until the game actually starts! The game doesn't oficially start until there is a batter in the batter's box, a pitcher on the pitcher's plate and the umpire indicates "Play" or "Play ball".

A forfeit would be at the discretion of the umpires and tournament director. Where were they at 12:30 and what were they doing for those 24 minutes?

Thanks for the feedback so far...

They were sitting in the car in the parking lot 300 yards away from the field

Sounds like there was a communication issue perhaps. Coach should have come to the field to find out for sure what was going on, but sounds like a Tournament Director call to me. May not have wanted to penalize the girls especially if there was a miscommunication but, if not, sure would have had every right to declare it a forfeit.

I think Bretman was asking where the umpires were at 12:30 pm.

Exactly what I was asking.

Were the umpires at the field trying to start the game? Did they know where the other team was? Did they explain to anyone why the game wasn't being started on time? Did anybody talk to the other team to find out why they were in the parking lot instead of on the field?

It just seems like there must be more to the story that we're not getting. If there weren't any umpires at the field, the game obviously could not have started. If they were there, didn't anybody ask them why the game wasn't being started?

Agree with Bretman, where were the umpires? They would have been the 1st ones I looked for to see what was going on. I don't know of too many umpires who would allow a team to sit in the car while the other team was ready to play at start time.

Thanks again for the feedback... Yes umps were at the fld ready.. I think team 2 just took for granted that it was raining and there was a delay.. But the ump said no delay and was a little upset the team wasnt making there way to the fld not even there coach to check out what was going on.. He even ask me in a joking way if this team wass scared of us... So team one had to wait 24 minutes out in the rain before the game while team 2 was in there cars in the parking lot.. Nothing else to the story.. Just mental error by team 2

I saw a team show up for warm-ups prior to their first game of the day and the tournament director forced them to start 30 minutes earlier than scheduled due to the previous 2 games ending early. That coach was pretty upset :)
