Why make it where a player has to decide between two main sports during the same fall/winter/spring season???????
Those whom have dd play both volleyball and softball, this would cause havic.

Should never be any reason to have two main sporting events being played during the same season. This being the main 3 sports for girls being volleyball, basketball and softball.

One question regarding moving Softball to the fall...

Pitchers and Catchers report 30 days before the season - or lets say close to that... So at that point in time - no more contact with Travel Teams. Correct?

School starts... August 20th? or close to that? 30 days prior to August 20th... lets see... July 21st... Pitcher and Catchers report? No more Travel Team playing?

Seems to me a lot of girls are going to miss the ASA World Series, NSA World Series, and late July and early August tournaments...

Ohhh and for those people that say... "Well we change the rules... and allow contact between the two.... Who takes presedences... High School coach for practice or Travel Ball for practice and/or games?"

Right now... it seems to me that by keeping them separate you are doing the the girls a huge favor...

I think my daughter's current high school coach would be OK with her playing for her travel team (i.e. playing both)... I would say the coach she had last year would have major problems with it and she would have been forced to make a decision between the two.

Not exactly.
A member of an interscholastic fast pitch softball squad (any student who has played in a scrimmage, preview or regular season/tournament game as a substitute or starter) sponsored by the Board of Education or other governing board shall not participate in a non-interscholastic program

So they are prohibited after the first scrimmage, preview or game. But, most travel organizations do use the pitchers and catchers report date as the date to cease contact. A nice working relationship that needs to be kept.

Yes, if Ohio moved softball to the fall, then girls would have to decide which one to do. I'm thinking that HS would be the one left out.

My question would be with the 5 states that play in the fall when is their VB season? There must not be any conflict there, and with the states that was mentioned above that do play in the fall there was at least 2 that has the potential of having bad weather and it apparently doesn't bother them.Looking at the different view points and being a travel ball coach I can go either way although the spring seems to work out better for all parties

I would like to see more restrictions on the coaches.

Only contact can be during the season ie, one month before first game till last game (tournament elim) for all sports. The rest of the time should be no contact (minus award night)

Theres way to much open gym time , that is Strongly recomended, that is all summer long.

Making it up, or misunderstands the rules.

This Coach that you are speaking of must be Dreaming!

The A.D. and the Coach of that School need to be reading and understanding the OHSAA Sports Regulations and the OHSAA Bylaws. If this Coach is coaching as stated, then he or she is in violation of the OHSAA Regulations.

4.7) Participation in indoor fast pitch softball is not a violation of OHSAA non-interscholastic team Bylaw 10-3-4 for student-athletes.

4.8) In accordance with Bylaw 10-3-6, interscholastic fast pitch softball coaches are prohibited from coaching their own interscholastic squad members in indoor fast pitch softball except for 10 days from June 1?July 31.

4.8) Any coach who violates any of the instructional program regulations may be prohibited from involvement for one calendar year in any instructional programs with athletes from the school where employed.

4.9) It is not necessary for instructional programs to be registered, sanctioned or approved by the OHSAA, but schools are responsible for enforcing the regulations.

7. Mandatory No Contact Periods ? Coaches

PENALTY ?Any coach who violates the mandatory no contact periods regulations may be prohibited for one calendar year from out-of-school season contact with athletes from the school where employed. A school whose coach violates the mandatory no contact periods regulations is subject to penalty as specified in Bylaw 12.

Hope this Helps! But the Sad part is :( The coach could possibly cause those players to become ineligible to play in the 2009 Softball Season, if OHSAA were to get drift of what is going on with that H.S. Coach and team.
