Scholarships

I was watching the PGF Premier 18U Nationals, Team Mizuno vs. SoCal A's, that I DVRd on Sunday. I heard something that I thought was pretty interesting. Sue Endquist stated that 80% of scholarship dollars comes from division 2 and below. I would not have guessed that at all.

Is she including academic scholarship?

I honestly do not remember Blue Ice. I am going to have to listen to it again.

I replayed it - Sue went on to say financial aid and scholarships. I couldn't find where she got the number.

Since mostDII,DIII and NAIA schools have considerably higher tuition cost than DI yes,the athletic/scholarship dollar and financial aid available at these schoolswill be much greater than DI.

However; take an Ohio NAIA school that has a 49K tuition and they give anathlete 30k the athlete is still responsible for 19K per year... So, more available money does not mean less expense.

As far as money for school ... one must also figure in room/board, books and parking that can easily exceed 10k over any tuition scholarship...

Lots of things to consider as parents/players look at the many offers from DI to NAIA....All have creative ways to help a student athlete. There are also several shell games....

Athletic money at DIII? However, most DIIIs are private schools that provide a lot of financial aid.

Best point - like all other shopping, it's what it costs you, not how much they've discounted it.

I wouldn't be surprised if student loans were included as financial aid.

There are also more D2, D3, NAIA, etc combined than D1.

And aren't most of the D1 softball schollies split between multiple student athletes?

Scholarships are split at all levels and D1 schools have the most to offer - D1 - 12, NAIA - 10, D2 - 7.2 and D3 - 0.

JuCo has as many scholarships (11k) as D1 and D2 combined.
