34-2 means someone cares about the posting of tournament results. (TD'S) take notes

I promise to do a better job of posting Final results on the Softball Zone. I really appreciate being able to post information about my Tournament.
When we were building our latest website ( 2-3 years old now) it was very important to us that we posted all schedules and live scores on our website during the Tournament.
We know lots of people are looking at that information. I am very proud of the teams we have in our Tournament and want to show that off also!!

OHIO and Softball Fans are very lucky to have the Softball Zone!

This has been a bugaboo of mine for a long time. I think, Ricky, you've said too that in-season Sunday evenings are the highest traffic times on this site. Obviously that's because people are looking for the results.

Related to that, I'd like to know for each tournament if the TD is profiting, or if it's for an org or something like that.

You are giving them free adverstising by allowing them post and promote their tournaments on this site. Then I think it is only fair that you require them to post the results.

In all seriousness, I am sure some of you TD's out there have gotten tired of hearing about this from Ricky over the last couple of years, but the response he got from posting this just over 6 hours ago is amazing (FYI ... it's now 38-2, or 95%, if you haven't taken the survey yourself). As mentioned above, Ricky has given you all a free Forum to advertise your tournaments for many years, and hasn't asked for anything in return other than this. Even if you don't care about Ricky and think you are somehow "owed" this, it's in your own best interest, isn't it? Think about it ... the members of this Forum are overwhelmingly saying that you should be posting them here, and that they come here to not only see what tourneys to enter, but what the results are of these tourneys. If you don't post your scores, then at least a few people are either going to think a little less of your tournament or just not come here as often, and neither of those things are going to help sustain interest in your tournaments. It's a no-brainer ...

We're pretty lucky in SW Ohio with our USSSA and ASA TDs. Terry Folino, Mike Craig, Phil Sowders, and Mitch in West Liberty all post scores in some capacity (sometimes they use all pro software or something similar). I know the Dayton Metro and other ASA tourneys at Kettering Fields typically do a good job, too.

In all seriousness (and I am not trying to be too provocative here) who really cares if the TD makes a profit when you should be more worried about things like: location, appropriateness of competition, exposure, etc... If the product is worth the cost, great!... if not then go elsewhere.

Regarding the posting of scores it sure would be nice if they would. Even if it takes a week or two to post them (or link to them) it's not that difficult. Maybe if we cut them a little slack and allowed them get paid a buck or two for their time they would be a little more willing to go the extra mile and post.

Should Tournament Directories be required to post results on forum in order to use the forum for advertisement of tournament's?[/QUOTE]

In my opinion, YES! At the very least the TD can include the website address (if there is one) where results are available during the event and post the order of finish for each age division on the forum after the event.

I never personally ran a tournament, though I helped out at several and I know it's a ton of work. I did used to run all of the finances/bank and the raffle for a very large church festival which ran from Thursday PM thru Sunday. I didn't get paid anything of course, and by the end of Sunday evening, I was exhausted. The festival ended at like 9PM, and I was there until after midnight cleaning up, getting moneys ready to deposit, etc. But I knew my job wasn't done until I took care of loose ends and reported back to the pastor and festival chairman in the Monday-Tuesday timeframe how we did financially. I see running a tournament as very similar ... the job isn't finished until the paperwork is done, and the paperwork in this case includes reporting the scores/results. And 43 out of 45 voters agree so far!

I'd have you keep my books on any event I would run lol Like you said without (results) the paperwork not done.Is there an advantage to not posting scores?everyone likes to see how there competition or there equivalent does.Agree something needs done, maybe pay to post is the answer.

We always post our results, sometimes during the tournament , but usually the day after the tournament is over. It is very important to us to be sure we are available during the tournament .

I'm really enjoying this thread and the poll. I think we should have more polls like this in the future. I like Ricky's creativeness on pressuring TD's to be more of a contributor to the forum. They reap great rewards by promoting themselves on this site and give nothing back. And frankly I think some TD's honestly think that just by promoting there events on this site are a contribution to the forum. The self promoting is a real turnoff for me. It's gotten worse over the last year. Orgs are competing on the site on every front. It takes away from what I think the forum should be used for. It's not a free platform to promote your org or event. The least TD's could do is post some results. Kudos to the TD's who are chiming in on this thread and to the TD's who have been posting results already.

Maybe they can post showcase scores with an asterisk saying teams weren't really trying to win.

I call BS on that statement. A team might not put themslves in the best position to win because they moving girls around. Or a college coach wants to see a girl in a certian postion but the team and girls are still playing to win.

Isn't every tournament in Ohio, a "SHOWCASE" now? I say post it all. If you advertise on the site, post all results plain and simple. I have never seen a group of college coaches ask a coach to see their #4 pitcher, the bottom of the order hit at the top, and all 5 of your bench players on the field at the same time. The DD's team has played in some big venues, and taken a couple embarrassing losses. It wasn't because they were showcasing, it was because they sucked that particular game. We didn't win because we were showcasing, has become the new excuse for sucking. With that said, I am a huge fan of showcasing! The point I am making is if you are going 0'fer the weekend, or you can't shuffle a line up without taking a beating, you are probably in over your head. There is nothing wrong with playing the best competition you can, it's how we get better. But when you take it on the chin, own it!
