St. Ambrose saw its season come to an early end at the CCAC Tournament at the Ballpark at Rosemont Thursday. The Bees lost their opener to Trinity International 2-1 before ending the year with a 9-2 loss to Olivet Nazarene in an elimination game later that night.

The losses spoiled two strong pitching performances from Christina Pembrook.

Pembrook went the distance in the opener, allowing seven hits and two runs, one earned, over seven.

The No. 6-seeded Bees managed just four hits, three of those coming over the final two innings.

In the sixth, trailing 2-0, St. Ambrose got on the board. Megan Ballegeer got things started with a one-out infield hit. One out later, Ryan Friend, who had the team's first hit with a one-out single in the fourth, doubled to left center to cut the deficit to 2-1.

SAU then had the potential tying run on base in the seventh when Katyn Pica-Johnson led off with an infield single. She moved to second on Logan Frerichs' sacrifice bunt and took third on Libby Munsterman's ground out. But she was stranded there as Sydney Engelhart grounded back to the pitcher to end the game.

That put St. Ambrose in an elimination game against Olivet Nazarene, a team that finished second in the CCAC with a 20-2 league mark but was stunned in a 2-1 first-round loss to Trinity Christian earlier in the day.

The Tigers exploded for six runs in the top of the first inning and added three more in the second to break things open early.

Pembrook entered in the third and surrendered four hits over five scoreless innings but it was too big a deficit to overcome.

The Bees got two runs back in the third. Pembrook drew a two out walk before stealing second. Ballegeer doubled into the gap to plate Pembrook. Morgan Krieger then followed with an RBI single to center.

Along with the walk and run scored, Pembrook also had two of the team's five hits in the season finale. Engelhart doubled in the seventh for the Bees' final hit.

Ella Specht took the loss.
