BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – The Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies arrived this weekend with a 33-2 record to play the Montreat Cavaliers softball team. They backed up the mark as they won both games against Montreat (11-26) in a Sunday doubleheader.

Game 1 (Georgia Gwinnett 10 – Montreat 2)

In the first game, ace Cailin Warner (SO/Portland, OR) faced a red-hot Grizzlies lineup. GGC came out swinging and put a run on the board in the first inning. From there, Warner shut the Grizzlies down for the next two innings before GGC broke through for four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth. The game was shortened to five innings due to the run differential.

Despite the pitching of the Grizzlies' Taylor Hansis, Mikki Shelton (SO/Old Fort, NC) had two hits for the Cavaliers and Kelsey Nolasco (SO/Casa Grande, AZ) added the other hit. Nolasco walked and doubled in the game. Shelton and Aly Woody (SO/Marion, NC) scored Montreat's runs.

Game 2 (Georgia Gwinnett 7 – Montreat 3)

In the second game, the first three hitters in the Montreat lineup – Shelton, Nolasco, and Woody – each had a hit for Cavs, as they drew nearer to the Grizzlies but dropped a 7-3 decision. Alicia Gil (JR/Phoenix, AZ) had the fourth hit for Montreat.

Shelton tripled for the Cavs in the first and Woody's single followed to drive her in. Nolasco then belted a two run home run to put the Cavs up 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Abby Swilley (SO/Riceville, TN), Ronnie Ellis (SO/Augusta, GA), and Aly Woody pitched for the Cavaliers.
