WALESKA, Ga. – Montreat softball picked up its first win against Reinhardt Univeristy since 2010 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader split on Saturday. The Cavs fell 2-0 in game one, but came back with a late game rally to take game two 8-4.

"After a touch battle in game one where we didn't seem to have anything fall in our favor, we came out strong in game two and kept pushing runs across the plate," said head coach Heather Maston.

Game One: Reinhardt 2, Montreat 0
Both teams struggled at the plate, combining for just nine hits total in game one. No one would cross the plate until the Eagles scored the only run they would need off an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth before tacking on another run in the sixth.

Mikki Shelton, Liana Elliot, and Vanessa Bartkewicz each recorded a hit for the Cavs, who left four runners on base.

Cailin Warner had a great outing in the circle, tossing six innings while allowing just two walks and two runs and striking out five Reinhardt batters.

Game Two: Montreat 8, Reinhardt 4
Montreat's 4-hit, 4-run effort in the top of the seventh proved to be too much for Reinhardt to recover from in game two, giving the Cavs their first victory over the Eagles since Apr. 17, 2010.

Reinhardt opened up with three runs featuring a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first, but the Cavs quickly answered with three of their own in the top of the second. Ronnie Ellis reached on a leadoff single through the hole at shortstop before Kelsey Nolasco and Liana Elliot loaded the bases with back-to-back bunts. Ellis was forced out at home while Bree Powell reached on a fielder's choice, but then Shelton knocked in Nolasco on a single to short and Elliot scored on the throw. Aly Woody then plated Powell for the tying run.

A sac fly would give the Eagles a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second, but Woody's sac bunt helped to score Elliott to tie things back up.

After two scoreless innings, the game entered the seventh inning all even at four apiece. Shelton got things going with a leadoff single to right and was later knocked in by Ellis for the go-ahead run. With two outs, Ashlyn Vickers ripped a 2-RBI double to right center before crossing the plate for an 8-4 lead on Elliott's single to center.

Reinhardt had two runners on with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Charlie Smith struck out the final two batters to seal the win for the Cavs.

Elliott finished 3-for-4 at the plate while Shelton also had a multi-hit game, and Smith went the distance on the mound with three strikeouts, improving to 11-6 on the year.
