IMO, the batter was coached the exact way to it played out. I agree with a lot of the posters about it being either interference or unsportsmanlike as she never put the bat in a position that would make me believe she is attempting to bunt or at least fake bunt. The angle of the bat is directly back towards the catchers facemask. This is totally out of a rec coach play book. I have never seen all the coaches of a team on offense only watch a runner steal a base as the coach has explained. Sounds shady to me. I have no skin in this but the fact that it happened twice to the Lasers, not knowing how many times to other teams. If I am a 3rd base coach, I am watching the batter the entire time.

I was going to post again, but will wait to offer my opinion during tonight's radio show.

I wanted to watch this video and be able to say it's just a little girl who did not understand bunting. but I fear you guys are correct and this was coached.

Maybe it was misinterpreted by the batter - but she was definitely told to put the bat in front of the catcher's eyes because she strains to do just that.

It puts me in mind of the smart feller from the 8U Coach Pitch team in our rec league who figured out if he taught all the girls to tomahawk chop at the ball when batting and he threw the ball just above their head they could hit fly balls over the infield - genius won a lot of games that way (at 8u when it really counts).
Most of those girls moved up to 10U girl pitch and their parents were upset because they couldn't hit a thing.

If you are playing ONLY to win in these early years you are really missing the point of coaching. (frankly if your playing only to win in the later years your still missing the point.)

This stuff will definitely come back to bite.

I'm new here (about 6 months). This has to be one of the most replied to and viewed post in a while, right? In other news LeSean McCoy was just traded to the Bills for Kiki Alonso.

As an aside to your aside -
DAM... I would have liked to have gotten Shady back to Pittsburgh...

Erie ... yes, it is ... as we get more into the travel season, activity will pick up a lot, and you will see an inverse relationship between the ages of the players and the number of posts ... i.e., the younger the teams involved, the more posts. Popular theory is that it has more to do with "maturity" of parents and coaches than the ages of the players. :)

Guess some people are pissed they lost. Looks like Stingrays 04 will be the team to WATCH this summer. On a side note, would this have been as bid of an issue if the pitcher hit her spot?

Cobb, as a Browns fan and Pitt graduate, I would not have been able to handle that.

As has been mentioned numerous times - THIS WAS A 10U GAME!!!
For anyone being realistic - this was a move that only could have been taught!!!! Plain & Simple......This was not a poor attempt at a fake bunt - It was a block the view of the catcher while runner steals 2B move - PERIOD! Shame on any coach/parent/instructor who would teach this to 10U players instead of the proper mechanics of the game.

Everyone on here says 10U & 12U are about learning the game - Yet moves this like happen? This should be unacceptable for the entire community!

No harm to anyone involved in this game - But the little girl did this on someone's cue - either the 3B Coach or someone else in her line of site. Accepting apologies are fine, but make sure they are sincere & not a cover my butt apology!

Good Luck to All in this group this year. Looks like it will be some good competition. Hopefully the adults will let the kids be kids & play the game!

I have seen those 2 girls throw numerous girls out at second. Even a few stingrays. The only way to stop them is to interfere and to cheat. No doubt that tactic was coached. Absolutely pathetic.

I am requesting that all of this be put aside! Mark has apologized to the Westlers, our team, and coaching staff. I have watched the actual GoPro video over and over and truly believe this was the result of a 10U player that misunderstood direction from her coach. I can see where the coach may have told the player she wasn't protecting the runner good enough and asked her to get the bat closer to the eyes and ball path. As a 10 year old this was her way of doing what coach asked. After the game, both stingray coaches explained this to me, apologized and assured me this is NOT what they teach players. I'm good with that and only requested the player be provided an explanation of what would be considered appropriate. Mark assured me he had already spoken to the player.
What we need to keep in front of us is that these girls will play against each other for years to come. As parents and coaches we need to make sure that good examples are instilled into our players. For the sake of kids from both teams; I do not want the players to witness every game being a blood bath of hatred toward opposing parents and players. Some of these kids are already friends and I want that to continue. I have no child on this team and from watching my own children grow into adults know that eventually these players will have to put down their bat, helmet and gloves and will no longer have the Game to play. However, they will have the friendships that have been developed through the years as long as we don't ruin it for them. As parents and coaches; let's not seize that innocence from the kids and hope that what they learn from us will be taught to their children.

Ricky, Please do not close this thread just yet. I want the parents of both teams to understand that Lasers and Stingrays coaching staff have both agreed; if future games become detrimental to these young players, the game will be stopped by both organizations unified together for the sake of the kids.

Ricky,

Coach Mike and I had another long discussion again tonight, and both coaches agree as stated above... Games will be stopped if needed and play will not continue until a resolution has been determined that is best for the kids.

The debate was about what happened and if it was intentional or unintentional and if the Coach is to blame, not the kid/kids. If you guys think your acting heroic by threatening to not and play, go ahead. I hate to tell you this it doesn't effect 99% of the people on this site. The only ones your hurting is the kids on your team. The rest of us will move on and not think twice about it.
If we continue to play in that type of environment, the only ones we hurt are the kids!
