Watching these Games in OKC surely makes me believe those West Coast girls are way better than the rest of the country....... If I see one more catcher drop a simple pop up I'm going to puke! I've seen 14 year olds with better with glove positioning playing the ball......

Arizona CF must have covered 30 yards on a sprint to rob Hawaii of at least a standing dbl. By all rights should have dropped in for a hit.

Did you watch the Big Ten network this season? I've never seen so many balls missed in the outfield! So many balls misplayed. I've seen 14U outfielders that know the lines much better!

What team was it that had the girl running from second to home with the fly ball and did'nt tag .She was coming in the dug out did'nt even realize she should have been tagging.

^^That was Tennessee. That didn't surprise me at all. Almost no girls arrive at college with a decent idea on how to run bases.

Yet another fly ball not caught has this game headed to extra innings. Routine fly ball to end the game and the left fielder not yielding to the center fielder ends up costing Arizona.

I've noticed that too. Almost seems like athleticism is at such a premium that fast, beats smart way too often. I guess a smarter player who knows to tag up on that play, but isn't fast enough to advance on the tag, is a liability as well. Could just be WCWS pressure causing a blond moment and player is actually savvy just blew it. I've seen baserunning gaffs in MLB that are just as bad and those guys are paid.

With the Tennessee girl not tagging, she would have advanced easily to third on a tag because the ball was caught on the run on the warning track. If the ball had not been caught, she probably would have scored unless the ball would have bounced right back into the left fielder's glove. Still, second and third with one out is far preferable to getting doubled off. Because she likely would have scored from second if the ball wasn't caught, the correct play was to stay on the base.

This changes if one is on first base. If she had been on first, the correct play is not "halfway", but to go as far off of first as you can without getting doubled off if the ball is caught.

Whether it's that type of play, an infield fly or anything else involving baserunning, if a team doesn't practice it, most girls won't do it right. As we know, most girls have grown up watching little to no baseball or softball on TV and played probably no sandlot ball. Their entire universe of knowledge is what happens in practice and in their own games. It's little wonder that most girls are poor baserunners and have no idea what to do when an infield fly isn't caught or when a throw goes out of play.

How about the play where the girl did not tag up and had rounded second a couple steps, then ran straight back to first without retagging second. Not sure I have ever seen that. Is that an appeal play or does the umpire have to call it right away. I would think it would have to be appealed??

IMO, Langenfeld (UCLA Pitcher) can do it all... pitch, hit AND smart base running. Textbook example on hit to LF corner - she hung just short of second base, and could get back to first if needed. I believe she scored on the play.

What I saw way too much of was girls leading off third on outfield flies!! Makes NO sense at all! A college player BETTER be able to beat out a deep outfield throw to home, or she should hang it up.

That left fielder for Arizona must be some kind of hitter. I am almost certain I saw her misplaying fly balls last year also. Not only did she misplay balls all night, she failed to see the center fielder calling her off of a ball that would have ended the game. The look on the CF's face said it all.

I also have seen girls hanging three steps off of third on fly balls to the outfield. Unreal. Again, you have to actually practice it, even with college girls. I know first-hand. This is something that as guys we never had to practice. We watched and played enough ball on our own that we just knew instinctively what to do.

I taped the game last night and intend to go back and watch to see if I can determine how loud the CF was in calling the ball that would have ended the game. With the crowd screaming and both players on the run, the CF needed to be screaming at the top of her lungs. I don't know if she was or not.

I seen them playing Northwestern out here in Az at the beginning of the season, the LF had a ball miss her glove, hit her in the shoulder and then bounce over the fence for a homerun. It was a Jose Conseco flashback!! (lmao) I will say the LF can definetly hit and run like a deer!!
