Great article ... this is an issue that is definitely increasing in our sport ... coaches should consider giving a copy of it to all parents, regardless of the ages of the youth they are coaching ...

I just experienced my first scrimmage as a non coaching parent. The first inning was difficult as I sat watching my daughter making a mistake and I really had to bite my tongue and hold back from saying something really quickly to her as she came off the field into the dugout (as some other parents were doing things like that even though we all agreed not to). But I honored my word and didnt say a thing and just smiled at her (wanted to wave but i didnt want to embarrass her too much). Sure enough, a few minutes later I saw one of the coaches go over and tell her exactly what I wanted to tell her. The rest of the scrimmage I sat back in the bleachers (not right up against the backstop or right next to the dugout) and relaxed and enjoyed watching her play knowing she is in good hands. She made mistakes, didn't always know what to do playing a position she had never really played much before and was clearly nervous. But she and her coaches can work on those things and I will just do whatever they ask me to do to help and keep practicing with her. After the game my husband and I didn't say anything to her except "did you have fun?" and then "you want to hit Bob Evans?" . I think I am going to like this change. : )

Great read, luckily my girls know how much I enjoy watching them play and practice. Also, DD's still ask me for advice and consider all my inputs.
