Any word on any local or Ohio players doing well up at Kent State this weekend? I'm sure Kirt W. has things rolling.
Joe, I believe you are up there?

All of my info is 2nd hand. There are 4 Cincy Tribe players up there and 3 out of the 4 were MVPs. The 4th is working on it as we speak.

The Tribe girls looked good - Schwaeble was toguh the game I saw her pitch.
All the girls in the showcase played well and looked like they had a good time.
Kirt had the place hopping.
The cage 1 games really drew some crowds. The ptichers put on a good show oevrall.
Left before all the final awards but QDNS Tournament MVP Pitcher was Ohio Classics pitcher Corey Rubright - congrats to all the girls who were chosen and played this weekend.

Rubright played on my daughters team. I was able to watch her for all three games and she is the real deal. Kristen Roznoski from the Buckeye Heat - Toledo was also a game MVP. Congrats to all the girls who participated in the QDSN.

I'm gonna brag... 4 Classics got game MVPs, One of them got two and two of them were 1st Team All Showcase..

Kayla Goodberlet Game MVP (3rd)16u Classics Purple
Megan Mahoney Game MPV (SS) 18U Classics Black
Corey Rubright (P) Game and 1st team 16U Classics Black
Christa Alvich (3rd) 2 games and 1st team 18u Classics Black

Cinci Tribe Pitcher rocked. (Are they 16u or 18 this year)

These two really stood out on my team.
Zoe Hughes (OF)Pittsburgh Predators - superfast awesome hitter 1st team and two Game MVPs
Brandi Lawson Indy Magic (1st) 2 mvps and 1st - very talented sophomore that plays 18 gold.

Saw lots of good players and many coaches (more than last year) Saw lots of friends too ! Good weekend.

A great weekend of ball playing by all the ladies. Saw some nice pitching, but more hitting than last year for some long balls. The most coaches I have seen at these with this being her 3rd I heard over 200, they were everywhere you looked.

The one thing that impresses me the most in this sport is that you can take 10 girls, who have never met, throw them together whether it be a week subbing for a team in a tournament in a place they never have been, or a weekend as this past, with girls they do not know, but all have one thing in common, the love of the game. See them play pretty much in unison and had from what it seemed a blast doing so!

Great Job once again to Kirt and his crew for pulling off a great weekend of opportunity for the ladies!

Does anyone know how they determine a 'first team"? There were still 8 teams yet to play their second game (out of 2 total) when they announced the first team selections.

My dd has been to a couple of these, north and south, and the mvp and first team selections must be very hard to pick. In the past there were a lot of very similar players and some of the game mvps appeared to have been picked in the first inning. There were some players that were obviously game mvps and some that made you scratch your head. In one of our games a player on dd's team got mvp without getting a hit and made two errors in the last inning. The girl is a great player and a good kid but in that game I would have had a difficult time choosing an mvp. Also most valuble pitcher seemed go to the pitcher that went first, not always, but you have to choose an mvp and they were being reported right after the game, which would make it difficult to watch the entire game and then go make
a decision. I am not saying that any mvp was not deserved, I'm just saying it is difficult and very subjective.

I agree it was a nice event. Great opportunity to meet girls from all over.

I do also agree that it at least looks unfair to name the first team when many still have half of their games to go. And the MVPs are always all over the map (who picks them?), but it is a great title to have for those who got them. I heard a number of disappointed comments from those who attended in the past that they weren't doing the timings this year - not sure if that's a permanent change.

The KSU camp portion also deserves kudos - the infield camp, at least, was a really nice work-out, with coaches up close and personal. I thought this was a very good deal.

And, gee, what a dream place for a team to practice in the winter. Not sure we'll do it all again (because of the price, especially since our cage game was 40 minutes with one at-bat for a good portion of the team), but it's great to do at least once. I think it holds more value for pitchers and catchers (which is often the case with showcases). Quite an event to organize, and nice to have two umps when there were high profile tournament games played last summer with only one!1

Don't know how they determine 1st team, but the 7 players that I saw and they received were all very deserving. It would be hard to pick the few spots since there was at least 50+ canidates that could have been selected also.

Had to chuckle a few times when joea kept announcing the "All QDSS 1st Team".........Joe, that showcase was in September ;), this was the QDSN...................

DD loved playing in her 3rd one (north & south) and has been in contact with her team.................Great opportunity, and a great friendships built for these ladies. DD is still in contact and talked to former QDS teamates this past weekend.

Heading over seas next week with Kirt's teams to hopefully see some good ball played and for my DD's to have an experience of a lifetime playing. My wife asked him "when are you playing in Ireland as the only way we will get there too is if Softball is involved"..... :)

The pitching speeds could not be clocked this year because of a problem with either NCAA or Mid-American Conference rules. I wasn't involved in any of those discussions, so I'm not sure of specifics, but it was beyond the control of the QDSN staff.

The Game MVP and 1st Team selections aren't easy to do. I also have nothing to do with those, except I chose Game MVPs for one game while the regular selectors took a lunch break on Sunday. For my game there were four realistic possibilities and I simply had to choose three of the four.

Purple Jack makes a good point about the timing of the selection of the 1st Team. The reason for the timing is so that most everyone is still there when the team is announced. But now that the event has gone from three on-field games to two on-field games and one cage game, there were 4 teams of girls that had played just one on-field game by the time the 1st Team was chosen. I intend to discuss that with Kirt and the guys who run the selection part, but if we wait until the very end to meet and select, everyone is gone.
