What was some of the fastest pitching speeds seen by everyone? I know last year there was not to many that hit 60 MPH.

I thought they were not allowed to gun speeds any more in order for the DI schools to attend.

One pitcher hit 60 and higher fairly consistently, but at least the game I watched she got hit pretty hard. Speed without movement is susceptible to the long ball.

Most, including some of the most effective, were around 56 on average.

Seen majority were 53-55. Seen some at 55-58 and few 58,59,60 consistantly.
See two at 61-63

Agree w/ fpsfan15. The Duggan girl hit 60-62 regularly in the 4 pm game, but Kirt told me she got a 66 in one of her earlier games. I really would have liked to see that.

Did anyone dominate????

There were some pretty good pitchers there. The one that looked most dominant that I saw was a Pitt Power lefty, who really gave us the business. And that was a reminder from the past as well, very nice pitcher, sneaky fast at 55-57 on the gun ..... sure looks and feels faster.

A lot of others that looked very good as well, such as Jen Sutton, Brit Flanigan, Lindsay Swipas. All excellent bats as well.

There was a girl from Team Long Island that pitched well also, who just smoked the ball hitting.

I didn't see anyone who hit 60, personally, and a I know of a few there that can hit 60. Some said that the guns were inconsistent (don't know about that though).

Nice to hear a bunch of our OH girls got it done.

Triple,

I also saw the Doom 95 pitcher in the cages pitching. Doug was there also. Not sure she was at "mid-season" peak form per her dad, but she looked very good also! Didn't see her in games though, just a cage session. FWIW ...

Kacie Locker (sp?) also looked very good, from our team. There were a lot of talented players, just trying to remember the ones that I actually witnessed ... I was a little preoccupied with selfish pursuits also, lol.

I watched several hard throwers get rocked, but watched some "slower throwers" skillfully overmatch hitters with accurate pitches and movment. I know, I know, everyone wants 60+.

I want to thank Kirt and his staff and KSU for such a wonderful event. DD had such a great time showcasing her skills and already had more than a few schools ask about her before we left, that is just awesome. For the record, her fastball hit 62, but pitched consistantly between 56-59 throwing movement. Congrats Kayla on your MVP.

I was impressed with Rebecca Molnar. My Daughter was her catcher for the Showecase. my daughther has caught many pitchers. I ask Kristin(My DD) how does Rebecca compare to other pitchers she has caught. She said Rebecca was as good and had a fantastic attitude. This was are first QDSN and had a lot of fun and learned a bunch about the recruiting process.

There were no radar guns on the cages. So there may well have been some heat being thrown there.

Most pitchers were in the 54 - 57 range. These slower pitchers had some success it seemed because the hitters were geared up for much faster pitching. Tough to stay back when the adrenaline is going - saw a lot of early hand grounders.

gamer, isnt that the point to screw with a hitters timing? :)

Dorsey from Dragons and Caudill from Cincy Storm both looked good and brought some heat as well.

I saw several pitchers hitting 60+ throughout the QDSN event...I saw one hit 65 one time. The majority I saw were in the 55-58 range. I also saw a pitcher who I witnessed throwing 60-61 consistently at the QDSS who was throwing 56-58 in this event. These players cant have top speeds every day as there are many variables at play that can negatively impact velocity. Even though the event is in a very nice climate controlled environment doesnt mean the cold weather outside isnt impacting a pitchers arm and body. That along with the fact that their arms are not in mid summer form due to our wonderful climate this time of year. Their is just a big difference between pitching outside when your arm and body is used to it being warm and humid all the time compared to pitching inside when your body is being exposed to near zero temps before you get inside. Congrats to all of the young ladies who braved the cold and snow to attend the QDSN!

Good point Tim. We were interested in the home to first times after reading the profiles.
After hearing the times, I would agree with your comments. The on line profiles would make you chuckle , when you look at the picture and they post 2.7 Same with some of the pitcher profiles when it comes to speed. .

I agree! Based on the schedule we played last year we were able to face 18U ASA A and Gold teams representing 16 different states which allowed us to see many different pitchers and pitching styles. I only recall playing two teams more than once the entire summer season and we only played them two times. I have to say that the flame throwers were not our most challenging pitchers to face last year. It was the mid fifties girls with great command and movement that we struggled with the most. Alot of the flame throwers we faced didnt have the great movement we saw with the girls hanging in the fifties. By no means am I trying to say that velocity isnt a great gift...it is...especially when they have good movement! I am just saying what our teams experience was last year based on the pitchers we faced. Sometimes I think the lower velocity pitchers get what I will term as "little MPH syndrome" that inspires them to work extremely hard on location and movement in an effort to prove they can hang with those 60's girls.
