I thought it would be interesting go thru profiles. 23 pitchers posted above 60MPH with a few posting 63 to 65. Home to first some 2.6 , faster than Whatley? Her is the one that got my eye. Bat Speed of 80MPH. Makes Bustos look slow.

Speed is one thing, however, control and movement is where it's at. I'll take a pitcher throwing 55-60 with control, movement, and hitting their spots over a 60+ pitcher anytime.

I did only see a few throw over 60 consistently, but of those, I saw some great movement from McKenna Galloway and Nicole Sleith.

gamer, isnt that the point to screw with a hitters timing? :)

Dorsey from Dragons and Caudill from Cincy Storm both looked good and brought some heat as well.

My DD and I watched Dorsey pitch Sat night and I thought she was pitching faster than what it was reading. My DD was her catcher during fall ball, she even said she lookied like she was throwing faster then 55-57. Just curious how accurate they were.
It was still fun watching her throw, she also crushed one to the back net. With the pitching and the great hitting no wonder she was MVP that game.

Good point Tim. We were interested in the home to first times after reading the profiles.
After hearing the times, I would agree with your comments. The on line profiles would make you chuckle , when you look at the picture and they post 2.7 Same with some of the pitcher profiles when it comes to speed. .

this is why we hate publishing our data from our showcase, we get a few irate parents swearing up and down there kid is faster running/throwing. Colleges aren't impressed with inflated stats, and it all is just a reference point any ways, depending on the timer/gun. It's one small facet of a players make ups. I also love the "daddy goggle" quote :)

Nicole Sleith was the Showcase Most Valuable Player. Unfortunately, she had to leave before the awards were given out so she isn't in the pictures.

Proof is in the pudding...

A nice follow-up for this thread would be a November "LOI signing list" showing where all these pitchers signed to play college. After all, it's not the perceived speed or perceived movement of the ball, but rather the college coaches who decide if the pitchers are worthy...

Here's to those who keep it real.

I have to agree about the inflated stats/one liners issue. The best thing QDSN/QDSS should do is to set up stations like Rising Stars and publish the speeds of the girls in all postions of the game. All the girls would go through similar timing situations and it would allow the girls who are actually hitting the numbers to forward them to the colleges of there choice and keep the wanna be's honest. All information is confidential and identified only by the girls assigned numbers.

Was very impressed by the way the rising stars showcase was managed. l thought the way they anonamously measured the athletes was quite impressive. It also allowed the girls who did not perform up to par the opportunity to remain anonamous.

Here is there link from last weekends event. You don't know who the girls are unless they choose to identify themselves.

A free walking taco is on the table for the person who guesses my dd's jersey # ;)

Although the running times are not posted yet, I watched carefully, and Natasha or Crystal never showed. ;&

Smiller and ShockW - thanks for the comments regarding DD. She definitely was worn out from the day....after the 9:00 pitching session she walked off saying I can't feel my arm, hit for another 1.5 hours at 11:30 and came out asking: I'm not sure about the fielding session? After 1.5 hours of fielding at 3:00 and throwing some more, she came out and said "I need to lay down" and finally, when she got to meet her teammates at 6:00 and play at 7:00 she said after the game: I would do this all over again! She absolutely loved her team and meeting the players. She drew a fantastic catcher who blocked well and called a good game.....(just like you Tori!) For a sophomore who had not participated in an event with this many college coaches present and seeing coaches she has written following her team and taking notes was definitely worth it for her and for us as parents. She could and has pitched better from the mound, but it is all part of the process. For many of these players, it was a very long day with alot to do to even get there and be ready for the event. For her, it was the first inning of what we hope will be a long and fun game that ends four years after college!

I guess for me, I was impressed with the number of colleges present for the Kent State Showcase. I saw 135 signed in and I know several more came in after that. I wondered if they would leave when the Queen of Diamonds started, but I actually didn't notice much difference between the two events. The coaches were at both events on Saturday and Sunday. It was obvious that Sunday had slimmed down some, but so had the spectators!

As a parent who has been around this game for many years, it was very nice to see some (not all) of the best players I have heard about throughout Ohio participating this past weekend. It was good to see Caudill, Montana Wear, Katie Ardrey, Emily A, Lauren Gambone, Diggs, Duggins, Rossi, Annie Truelove, etc., play. Those are just a few of the
kids I got to see who I have watched in elementary, high school and travel ball. I want all of them to do well and get to the next level!
Oh yeah, this was about pitching speed......all clocks are about 2mph off....one way or another! Savvy was at a college camp last weekend and hit her profile speed consistently. Her speed during the games was lower than that by 2 mph mostly and occasionally 4mph. She also hit 62mph on at least 2 readings. She didn't hit that the weekend before, so, I take clock speed for what it is worth.

Sorry for long post and posting more than what the subject was about! I have read all of these comments and think some are true, but not true for everyone. Yesterday, Savvy received invites (through her coaches) from college coaches who had seen her at the Showcase over the weekend. That was a nice reward for her and I hope everyone is receiving those invites and following up with the coaches!

Hey Punchy! I haven't talked to you for a while! Annie T is from Watterson. Tall kid, hard thrower who I have watched over the last few years. I believe she is a Junior.

Hey, put the word out that Central Crossing is looking for some scrimmages! I count on your eyes and ears! Talk to you soon!

http://www.pitchsoftball.com/Page8.html This study agrees , but goes on to point out that only 1 % of teenage girls hit an honest 60MPH. That when you pitch in a game, your pitching speed tends to slow down. I know of one kid that I have been told for years hits 62 and her time was 56. After 12 years in this sport I tend not to believe what is posted by parents and coaches. What I do agree with . Those with movement pitches and I did see some mean riseballs, are the hardest pitchers to hit.

SB I can't argue with that. I think the girls for the most part put down the highest speed or highest speed range that they have ever hit or recently hit. Some may have a range where their fastest pitch may register. I think if the profile said "what is your game speed" the girls would have lower ranges.

My suggestion. This was after some heavy conversation on this subject. Post reads. 62 mph at KSU pitching camp. 2.84 at WSU slapping camp. Bat Speed 62 at Bustos hitting camp. Now you are showing them stats that were done at college camps. I know when we have attended these college camps, they have given you results. I would tend to think stats supplied by a third party might have more weight. Some of the stats are so far out in left field, you wonder !

Tim, that makes my point. The posted times to first base were just as bad. I watched at 2.74 at a slapping camp a few years back and I have never seen anyone that fast. Watching Team USA play in person, you can get an idea of world class speed. That kid had it.

I agree........ I would say only the top 3 % of the athletes ( Howard dont you say a word lol) in the country could generate that kind of speed with their feet or their bat

When you have a dd that can hit it as far as Bustos you don't need foot speed to walk the bases! Plus when you have worked with as many hitters as we have seen, you know a little about bat speed. Nice profile sheet.
