How much is it worth? If we each had to pay $250, is it worth it then? I am tired of being nickeled and dimed by governments, sanctioning bodies, and everyone else where you have little choice but to submit or else not take part in society. If it's all about the background check, then why wouldn't one done in the last 2-3 years by the state suffice?

I have coached in 2 asa tournaments and not one person has said 1 word about the certification
so dont tell me it is not about the money

I couldn't take the ACE Certification if I wanted to.... it is not captioned for the hearing impaired and hence - it is illegal per the Disabilties Act. Everyone must have equal access to the test or it is not binding.
This was sent to ASA - I have received a reply. "It is not captioned - sorry". Well, sorry won't cut it in a court of law.

Now that ASA has required this, it will be ASA as one of the defendants in a lawsuit if a felon coach slips through and molests a kid. As johnnies says, "sorry" won't cut it in a court of law. ASA has now said to parents that it will make sure its coaches are clean (what exactly disqualifies a coach, do they state?). If one isn't clean and does harm, ASA is likely negligent.

Ohio is very late in implementing ACE certification. When I coached in Oregon 3 years ago it was required that every coach on the field was ACE certified, but we also attended the training in person, it was not online. I think in principle it's good, however the online training is just like any online training, you complete it just to get the completion credit, not to learn anything.

If the are doing this for the kids,would't there be a website with the coaches names and teams so you would know where to let your dd play?

I took the ACE exam before the season started - per ASA rules.... and after playing in 4 tournaments (3 of them qualifiers) not one TD has asked to see the card.

The (heat'in it up) tourny paperwork stated that at least one coach had to be ACE certified.
so I guess all the assistant coaches could be convicts.

If they are serious, they would require all coaches, not just one. An asst. coach can get certified, yet the head coach does not. How will that protect anyone..

Did you play in qualifiers for the big Nationals or the Regionals? If Regionals, you didn't have to show, but do have to have for the Regional Nationals. If it's the big show, you have to show to participate in tournament and the big show.
I bet with it being the first year to require the ACE that many TD's are confussed.. . .JMHO

We played national quailfiers in Portage,Ind Bowling Green, Ky Elgin Ill. No one ask for ace certification.

Its only one coach this year, next year it will be all coaches on the team. Too much money to pass up.

plus if you have to pay the 25 fee for every step/section and then include every coach.... big bucks...
