Sitting at an airport thinking of this one.... No rulebook to look at...

Within the purpose of the lineup what is more important, Player name or number and what supercedes other?

Second one, can a player play another position and be listed as a different position in the lineup? Lets say Big Suzie runs like she is clocked with a sundial and is on the lineup as position #1, Can Debbie who is lightning fast, play position #1 and be listed as #9 position? Could a Courtesy runner run for Suzie as she is listed as Position #1?

Just curious is all....

ASA - name supercedes number and incorrect numbers can be corrected without penalty. NFHS allows correction of name or number with a warning the first time and head coach being restricted to dugout if it happens again.

Listing slow runners as F1 or F2 is an old trick that only works when you're visitor (i.e. batting first). ASA does not require they ever play those positions, but NFHS requires they both play those positions for at least one pitch to the first batter on defense.

ASA- What if the DP enters the defensive field to play catcher. When she bats and gets on-base, is she entitled to a courtesy runner since she was the last player to catch behind the plate?

For ASA there is a penalty for having the wrong number on the lineup card, however the first instance in a warning to the coach. After that the coach is restricted to the bench.

Yes, last player to physically play pitcher or catcher is eligible for a courtesy runner as long as they were the batter that reached base. You can't pinch hit for them, re-enter them and then get a CR.

That is the NFHS rule. First clue is the coach being restricted to the bench - a similar ASA effect would be ejection.

ASA Rule 4 Section 1 A.1 "If a wrong number is on the line-up, correct it and continue playing with no penalty."

This happened to us at the state tournament and read it from the book. I got the info secondhand, however so I could be wrong.

No, for ASA there's no penalty for having the wrong number next to the correct player's name. Simply fix the number on the line-up, without penalty, and play on.
