I saw this one the other day: Bases loaded. One out. Batter hits pop fly pretty high behind first base. First baseman is playing a few steps in front of the base. As first baseman is going back on the ball, runner at first is retreating in the baseline to the bag. They bumb enough to knock the fielder off stride. The umpire screams "infield fly, batter's out if fair." The ball drops foul. What's the call? Is anyone out? Now change the outcome to a fair ball dropping on the chalk. What's the call now? Thanks.

If ball becomes foul: There is no infield fly to enforce because an infield must be a fair ball. Runner is out if judged to have interfered with fielder's ability to catch the foul fly ball. If that is the case, then the batter is also out because a catch was prevented. Otherwise, it's just a foul ball.

If ball is fair: Batter is out on infield fly. Runner is out if judged to have interfered with fielder's ability to field a fair batted ball.
